This freak high on prana just reminded me that my sahasrara chakra would be useful on November 28th for the BUY NOTHING DAY worldwide!

It's a day meant to combat commercialism where those who participate are supposed to spend no money on anything. Not sure who organizes it. I don't know if it matters whether I do it or not. I dont buy anything on most days :)

I'm pretty sure the culture jammers at AdBusters organize this thing. If not, they're heavily into supporting it. Here's their site: http://www.adbusters.org/
Personally, I doubt taking part in Buy Nothing Day does any good but give you the peace of mind of not being with all the crowds the day after Thanksgiving if you're still going to buy a whole bunch of stuff for the holidays on another day. It'd probably be better if they advocated not spending frivolously over the entire season, but... AdBusters, as much as I enjoy the pictures, is often illogical.

When Lama Surya Das discovered Buy Nothing Day, he decided to join the party. Next, he asked Opinion Research Corp. to do a scientific assessment of 1000 people and take the pulse of American consumerism the day after Thanksgiving.
Here’s what they found:
- 62% of Americans plan to “buy nothing” on the day after Thanksgiving
- 61% intend “to stay as far away from stores or malls as possible”
- 35% have an unused Christmas present collecting dust in their closet
- 33% admit to throwing Christmas presents straight into the trash
- 8% say their credit cards will “be maxed out before the time the holidays are through”
If you want more results from the study, contact adbusters (mailto:campaigns@adbusters.org)
mskedi: Personally, I doubt taking part in Buy Nothing Day, maybe you would prefer the tv turnoff week (http://adbusters.org/campaigns/tvturnoff/)?
.... or maybe the '' try that fakir's art of living week'' :santa: ... during CHRISTma$$

Hmm... maybe my post came out wrong. I'm not big on buying things for Christmas and such (or receiving things). I just think it should be buy nothing season rather than day, or something more like that. I mean, how many of those 62% who are going to buy nothing today are still going to buy mass amounts of gifts and on-sale products between now and Christmas?
And as for TV turnoff week... I'm way ahead of you there. I don't even own a TV. Not ever seeing commercials seriously helps with not feeling compelled to buy a whole bunch of worthless stuff. :D
That said, I really do want a digital camera. *sigh* I'm not all that free from materialism.

Oh, that would not be pretty! I've gone weeks without VB, but my computer?! *sigh* Maybe I'll have to do that for Lent. Provided I don't have any papers due.

This individual must be one of those Yogis that my mentor always speaks of, who live in a pure meditative state and live on cosmic energy alone. This would mean he's reached enlightment and can leave the earth plane at a time of his choosing. Pretty cool.

Yeah, if I'm going to let "vegitan" fly guess I can't deny the "breatharian" now can I?
Stories like this have been around forever. Many are out-right frauds so its hard to buy into the article's claims - but the 10 days under surveillance was pretty impressive. I have never quite mastered the fasting thing - and no water? Forget it! So, Well Done.
