Since my once favorite Boca sausages are laden with egg whites, it was time for me to experiement with some vegan varieties.

So today I had a Tofurkey beer brat on a sprouted hoagie roll with spicy mustard and saurkraut. It was awesome. I like them even better than Boca brand. They are about twice as high in fat, though (11g) and very high in protein (29g).

I'll certainly buy these again. They also come in sweet italian sausage flavor and are made with sundried tomato. :hungry:

I just tried the Tofurkey bratwurst and thought it was pretty good too. We almost didn't but it though, my husband thought it looked like the dog's crap  I think next time I'll eat it on a roll with some sauted peppers and onions.

I've had the sun-dried tomato ones with pasta a couple of times. Very tasty, and healthy. (You need fat to live!) Not as good as the Field Roast "meat", but what is?

I'm not at all concerned about the fat since we vegans really don't have to worry. . . But what is the Field Roast "meat"?

Wow, sounds like something my husband would love! I will have to look for these! Are they new?

I'm really not sure if they are new, but I just bought them yesterday and it was the first time I had seen them at Whole Foods. They were near all the veggie meats in the refrigerated section vs. the freezer where the Boca stuff is. Could be that I just never looked there before.

Field Roast (http://www.fieldroast.com/) is the best, and made locally too (well, local for me anyway-- Seattle). Looks like you can't order it online, but they have a list of places where it's available: http://www.fieldroast.com/Ordering_Field_Roast.htm

Ah, looks like Wild Oats has it in my area. No wonder, I always shop at Whole Foods! Thanks!

I found these at Whole Foods and bought one package of each, Beer Brats, Italian Sausage and Kielbasa. They were all good but the Italian Sausage was by far my favorite. They were very tasty by themselves while the other two needed something on them like mustard or soy mayo.
I used to love Lightlife Italian Sausages until they reformulated the recipe to include egg whites. Yuck! I was also at my local Safeway last week and noticed they are now carrying the Tofurky sausages too. Go Safeway!

I haven't been able to find them at the Whole Foods in Denver. If anyone could tell me where I could find them in Colorado, I would be SO happy--my boyfriend desperately wants to try the italian sausage kind...

You can see if they're near you by going to the manuf's website: http://www.tofurky.com/purchasing.htm

Anyway. DH and I bought the Kielbasa ones a while back. We thought they were rather dry (especially considering how much FAT they have in them). I cooked them by slicing them up (raw) then adding them to a saucepan with sauerkraut & sauerkraut liquid. Maybe I should have fried them up in a buch of oil. :D

I probably won't buy them again because they're SO expensive. :( I find it hard to justify spending $4.29 on four sausages. FOUR! :(
