Hiya, I haven't posted in this forum for a while, so I thought I'd give a quick update as to how the raw-foodyism's going, and check up on everyone else :)

I did one or two 100% raw days during the summer while increasing my raw intake, and felt good during that whole period, a sense of lightness, and more energy.

Then, I don't know what happened. Somehow I managed to turn my back on the whole idea, and looking at this forum made me feel sort of guilty for not keeping it up.

A couple of weeks ago I was feeling run-down and I got to thinking about raw foods again. So, I've been increasing my raw intake to about 30-40% again, and started feeling good again. Unfortunately today I came down with a cold :(

But, I made an important realisation. Like others have said, rawfoodism became close to an obsession. I enjoy food, and I don't want to deny myself the things that I enjoy if it doesn't interfere with my ethical beliefs. I don't want eating to become the focus of my life.

I strongly believe that raw foods are great for health, but I'm not convinced that one needs to go 100% or become obsessed to reap the benefits.

I'm already a vegan who avoids most wheat and eats well, and I think that by making sure I eat a good variety of raw foods as PART of my daily diet I'll be happy and healthy and avoid the food obsessions that can so easily creep up without you noticing.

I'm not worrying about combining raw and cooked food and optimum digestion or whatever else. As long as I'm eating a good few pieces of raw fruit, some raw veggies and perhaps a smoothie or two I'll be happy :) So I have cooked spelt pasta in my salad - heh, you can slap my wrists :whip: :p

So, how about everyone else? What have you discovered on your raw journey? What side-roads have you taken along the way?

i'm pretty much of the same mindset. i like to have raw days--but those usually "just happen" and i like to increase raw intake. i like the idas of it, but it's not necessary for me to be one.

so, it's cool. i think it's a great idae to add more raw, more variety to everything. :)

Well I'm just trying to start in now. I'm currently getting through my second raw dish. Beta Burgers. Basically yams and onion. They didn't really turn into burgers. I'm on a slow transition. I figure to be mainly raw by the spring.

Yeah, Bobsy, you're right. Both physical and mental health is important, and obsessions are unhealthy. Also, I'm quite convinced that a certain kind of destructive behavior is necessary for mental balance - or is it just me? Don't know, but I sure don't want to be "good" all the time! That ain't no fun... :naughty:

So I stopped 100% raw for pretty much the same reason too. Also, I really started to miss a few cooked dishes, esp. grains. I keep my diet pretty simple, I eat mostly fruit, vegetables and grains (yay for oatmeal :guitar:).

This still gives me plenty of energy, as I still eat a lot of the food raw, esp. fruit, and I don't eat much processed foods.

Another thing is convenience... Cooking a cup of rice in the rice cooker is almost no work and keeps you going for a long time.

Nevertheless, raw foods are something worth considering for everyone to incorporate in their diets, plus it's a lot of fun. I have always been very laid back about it, so I never had a real "fallout". And I'm quite sure that when summer comes again, my raw intake will dramatically increase again!

This cold winter weather has really taken a toll on my want of raw foods. I've been craving beans and grains, mashed potatoes, and pasta. I'm trying to be good and stay away from white processed sugar items and white flour, still, so as long as I can do that, I won't kick myself for eating too many carbs in a day. I still have a banana smoothie every morning! :hamster: Gives me as much energy as Hamster.

hehe, thank you :D

I absolutely agree! I discovered so many new foods and awakened a passion for fruit I'd never had before. Heh, I made friends with my greengrocer and she showed me how to pick out perfect-for-eating mangoes and avocados and watermelons and all sorts of other things I'd never tried before trying the raw thang. I also fell in love with banana and pineapple smoothies

I keep my diet pretty simple, I eat mostly fruit, vegetables and grains (yay for oatmeal ).

Me too. I have some soy products and nuts too, but my raw food period allowed me to taste the food behind all the chemicals and salt and sugar, so I have no desire to eat processed food like I used to. I used to be an absolute chocaholic, but now everyday choc just tastes like solid sugar. There's no flavour! I still enjoy high-cocoa chocs, but it's nothing compared to the different levels and flavours of sweetness in fruit.

I have you to thank, Oatie, for introducing me to this idea, so thank you once again! :)

Grr, my internet connection is playing up so I haven't been able to post messages for a couple of days. I am around and reading messages though, just unable to post often :(

I went totally raw for 6 months...with a few slip ups...and felt terrific...then my hair started falling out. So I started adding some cooked grains to my diet. Guess what...my hair isn't falling out anymore. I think because it's so cold here in winter...I need some cooked grains, beans and soups.
