View Full Version : vegan mayo from Spectrum
Has anyone tried the new vegan mayo from Spectrum Naturals? What do you think?? I haven't tried it yet, but I bought it last night because I was looking for an alternative to Nayonaise. I usually get Vegenaise, but while on Weight Watchers, I want something with less fat and calories.
Spectrum tastes like what I remember Miracle Whip tasting like.
I bought some a couple months ago at Whole Foods. I wasn't a big fan and went back to Vegenaise, mainly because I'm a fat/salty food lovin' guy.
I hate Nayonaise and Vegenaise, so I was pretty relieved when I found out I liked the Spectrum vegan mayo. I like it a lot, actually. :lick:
If I might hijack the thread for a moment, which of the vegan mayos is the most similar to Hellmans(sp?) ?
That's what I ate back in my omni days, and I'd like to relive it veganically (hehe) with some Yves Deli Slices.

Ceryna, that would be Veganaise. The color, taste, and texture are the most like Best Foods and Hellman's that exist in the vegan world.
Thanks Quizeen! I'll be sure to try it. ^_^

Is the Spectrum Naturals brand less lumpy than Nayonaise? I prefer a miricle whip type 'naise, but I started using Veganaise due to those gag worthy lumps

Spectrum Naturals is okay...
I also bought it because it was lower in fat.
I miss the Veganaise, but it tastes okay on a sandwich.
It is way lower in calories, but lacks the creamyness of the Veganaise.
What you can do is mix them half and half and wean yourself from the good stuff. I also like to make this recipe from Chef Deb, I think it is good
and you can also make the Miso Mayo with it

Miso Mayo is so yummy!
Good Luck :)

The Spectrum stuff looked smooth and non-lumpy. I didn't get a chance to try it last night but I saw my husband spread it on his sandwich. I don't like the lumps in Nayonaise either...eeww!

Bryanna Clark Grogan (on her website, the URL is her full name) has a recipe for low-fat mayo using reduced fat silken tofu. It's really good. Made straight it's like regular mayo, but she includes adjustments that you can make for a sweetish, Miracle Whip version. The recipe is in the Weekly Archives.

i love veganese, although its really different and better than mayo. there was some other egg and dairy free one i tried and it tasted great as well, just like mayo.

I'd like to know this, too. I can't stand Veganaise, but Nayonnaise is okay. If I could find something more miracle whipy that would be great!

that was the one flower, it was nayonaise, it tasted like egg and dairy mayonaise so i was more interested in the different than mayo tasting veganese. i havent eaten it much lately since its loaded with calories.

Inspired by reading this thread, I bought some of this yesterday. It's not very creamy and has more of a pudding consistancy. It's too lemony for my tastes and could use a little salt, and it doesn't taste anything like Miracle Whip! It's not sweet at all.
