I am very excited to announce the new VeggieBoards toolbar for IE - the VeggIEBar (IEBar is the name of the software - clever, eh?)! There's good news and bad news. This cost me some money so...

Initially this will only be available to Contributing Members. I'll consider this a feedback gathering period. However, once I have 10 more Contributing Members I will make the toolbar available to everyone.

As a Contributing Member you receive:

ad-free version of VB
multiple color styles to choose from
larger avatar (100x100)
100 pm storage
quick reply box
and now... an early peek at the VeggIEBar!

To contribute via PayPal (preferred) you can click the "contribute" link at the bottom of this page. The cost is $12 for 12 months. When you pay via PayPal you instantly have access to everything above. Please pm me for info on how to pay by check or money order. Contributing financially is purely optional, I love you all the same. :)

Contributing Members can download now by clicking the link under the style drop-down menu on the main page.

==================

So what is the VeggIEBar?

The VeggIEBar only works with IE5+. It is a toolbar that rests underneath your IE toolbars (see attached image). The VeggIEBar consists of:

A button that links directly to VeggieBoards - 1 click and you're there!

An "actions" menu that currently consists of links to: view new posts, mark posts read, read private message, and send private message. Do it all directly from your browser no matter which website you're on!

A "sections" menu that currently consists of links to: the links page, the chat room, and the photo album.

A Google search bar.

An "information" menu that currently links to: Google News searches (for "vegetarian", "vegan", "animal rights", and "animal welfare"), PETA's animal derived ingredients lists, PETA's fact sheets, PETA's free vegetarian starter kit, and Vegan Outreach's Why Vegan.

A "recipes" menu that currently links to: VeganMania and VegWeb.

A "shopping" menu that currently links to: Amazon, Fantastic Foods, Lamas Beauty, Pangea, and VeganEssentials.

A "other" menu that currently links to: Dictionary.com, eBay, Internet Movie Database, Sing365.com (song lyrics), Yahoo Games, Yahoo Maps, and Weather.com.

==================

To install the VeggIEBar click the download link on the main page (currently only available to Contributing Members). Click "open" and then click "yes" to install. If you don't see the VeggIEBar once you've installed it (first be sure you're using IE5+) right click on the grey area at the top of your browser and you should see VeggIEBar there, make sure it's checked.

Changes may be made from time to time and updated versions released.

The VeggIEBar can be uninstalled at any time by going into the control panel of your computer and then add/remove programs. It is listed under VeggIEBar. You will need to shut down and restart your browser for the changes to take effect.

If you have a website that you would like to have included in future versions of the VeggIEBar please feel free to contact me.

Wow, that was super easy to install & use!! I like it! The shopping link is especially nice 'cause I'm a Pangea & VeganEssentials shopaholic. :)

So, will you be adding more if someone has a suggestion? I'd love to see A Different Daisy, Kiss My Face and MooShoes on the shopping link.

Awesome! I just downloaded it!

Yep, I'll definitely consider any suggestions. Once we get our 10 more Contributing Members and I release it to everyone I'll probably make some minor changes. Nothing until then though.

Oh, the "links" link in the sections menu doesn't work, it just redirects you back to the main page. I've been meaning to make a seperate page for the links directory so I'll plan on having that done before I release the next version of the bar.

I tried to do it, but it didn't work, which means that I must not be using IE5+. Pardon my ignorance, as I'm technically challenged :p, but what is IE5+?

Internet Explorer 5 or higher.

Michael,

Are you aware that once someone is a contributing member they can not use PayPal to donate more money? Some people may want to give again, but can not.

I tried to use the PayPal, so I could pay for someone else, since mine was covered, but I can not use the link.

I also wanted people to know at VegWeb some people could afford more than others to pay the donation. This turned into members would volunteer to pay for another member plus their own and then when it came due again (or sooner if you can do it before) the member who could not pay the pervious time would pay theirs as well as another member who can not afford to pay. It is a kind of pay-it-forward thing where people help out a fellow member. Plus it helped the site.

The Pangea link isn't working for me. :( I noticed that it has pangea.com as the address, though. Whenever I go there, I have to use veganstore.com.

Internet Explorer 5 or higher.

Oops. I thought veganstore.com was Pangea but I didn't check it out ahead of time. I'll fix it.

Also, I know you can't use the contribute link at the bottom fo the page but there's a contribute link in the shopping section of the toolbar, you should be able to use that. If that's what you're referring to let me know. If you don't want to use that let me know. I do need to get that figured out. I just wanted to avoid people feeling like they had to give too much so I thought it was best to have one fixed amount. So yeah, I'll get to that one too.

Would I have to redownload that every time I use a different computer in the computer labs here? That would be a pain, so I may just wait until I get back to the States.

Thanks Michael, I love the new toolbar :smitten:
I would love it even more if you'd add my website under "shopping". It's www.crueltyfreeskincare.myarbonee.com.
;)
Thanks again!

I am curious about how this came to be created. Why doesn't every organization have one of these toolbars?

I like it. It is nice. I haven't tried all the features out yet, though.

michael you are the coolest. i just need to contribute...

[i keep saying that]

skylark - It would have to be downloaded to each computer you use. :-/

Jaeska - Only works with Windows and IE. :( I hate using IE so I don't really get to use it either. :-/

Joe - I'm not really sure. I guess it's kind of expensive. I found one that wasn't too bad (still over $100) but some of them are really expensive and with most of them you can't make changes to the toolbar, they make it and send it to you and that's it, if you want changes after that you have to pay extra.

SallyK - But I could just sign up myself and then I'd be making the money. :D

stvspl - Yes, you do. :p

We still need 9 more new Contributing Members before it'll be released to everyone.
