"If a person does not want to finance the brutal torture and slaughter of animals in the name of capitalism, you can stop eating meat and dairy products, purchasing health products which are tested on animals and wearing leather and fur; but there are still animal products in the film for cameras, movies, vinyl records and in countless other products. The companies you buy vegetables from are most likely connected to the companies who make meat and dairy products, and these vegetables themselves were probably picked by oppressed labor."

theres animal products in casette tapes, but i have never heard that there is animal products in vinyl records...

it says movies... but it doesnt say that dvds are fine
unless it meant the film in cameras and movies... either way the wording is terrible

i would find other sources...

i do think its funny they choose to omit that there are animal products in bicycle tires and floppy disks
or are those not considered 'luxuries' ?

i stand corrected...

i just found that some vinyl records contain lacquer, which can be an animal product

The lacquer in records is shellac, as far as I know, and that comes from beetles.

See
http://www.vegansociety.com/html/animals/exploitation/shellac.php
for more on it.

Thanks for the help.

"shellac had been displaced almost completely by synthetic resins"

"In fact 78rpm records were made from it and this was formerly the largest single outlet for shellac"

those two quotes make me think that shellac isn't used much in vinyl records anymore, does anybody know?

hmm... do records say on them what company actually produced the physical record? if so maybe you could call the company and ask them their ingredients

also, asking a label that has vegan-friendly bands isnt an awful idea too
