I just saw them on Conan tonight. They're quite... interesting to say the least!
I'm not sure what I think of them. I do like that they seem really genuinely interested in having a good time on the stage! Filled with life. I'm not so into all of their songs, well... at least not all that I sampled. :D A couple caught my ear though, and I think that future CDs might be better when they figure out where their genre is going!
They have a pretty sweet website though, and it's worth watching the intro. :D

At Reading festival, two years ago, my friends and I were just randomly hanging around in the main arena, when we saw 20-odd people dressed up in white gowns also wandering around aimlessly. First of all, we thought they were lunatics, but then five hours later they were up on stage as The Polyphonic Spree!
Like Kreeli, I had a phase of loving them.. but I've since gotten rather sick of them. :flush:

The white robe thing seems a bit cultish, but i like it. :D
I like how they mostly sing about as well as a random group of 2 dozen of us! Did you watch the intro on their website? I wonder how well they all get along?

yeah, i've seen the site. i think they are supposed to be simply AMAZING to see live...something i can believe. and they are definitely doing something different with the whole "we are the world/sunshine makes me happy" chorus thing. i like the fun, upbeat, positive messages in their songs...but i feel like they kind of lifted that vibe from the SFA and the Flaming Lips, a bit.
the "head" guy there, tim, he was the guy from "tripping daisy".

I don't know SFA and the Flaming Lips well, so I can't really comment on that, but when I hear their music I really can't help of thinking of nothing else than my music class upwards to 3rd grade at the parochial school I went to!
It's just fun. I feel like it's a bunch of kids really into the music singing a song about peace on earth, or something similarly graded schoolish!
The most appealing part of their music is it makes me feel like a kid I guess. Flashbacks from school. :p
I don't know anything about tripping daisy, but I read about that on the website last night. I shall go sample a couple songs. :D

If that's the case, I'm TOTALLY checking them out.

Nothing wrong with a little muppet rock....
I really enjoy them, but I admit I haven't listened to more than a couple songs. I am annoyed that their music is used in that VW commercial....
so they lifted their happy/sunshine vibe from Super Furry and the Lips... no prob... I think there needs to be more of that vibe all around...
...suddenly feeling the need to listen to Super Furry Animals...

haha, I was thinking along similar lines. Maybe, modern hippy music. Kind of like, "I wanna be happy, but am to depressed over the state of the world to ever really be happy" music.

They seem genuinely happy to me. Have you seen them perform?

No, I haven't. Should have made myself clearer; I was just commenting on their music, not their performance.
