I recently purchased the two slice toaster from Kitchen Aid. I read great things about it, but my toaster isn't living up to the reviews. It doesn't matter what setting I select, my toast never comes out toasted the first time. I have to toast it at least twice. To me, paying $50 for a toaster that can't toast on the first try is not a good deal. I was wondering if anyone else out there has a Kitchen Aid toaster and if so, how do you like it? Also, I would love to know what other brands of toasters others have, as I am seriously considering taking my toaster back to the store for a refund.

I just spent the past half hour calling Rowenta and other various stores. To make a long story short - while Rowenta toasters are considered to be one of the best on the market (like their irons) they are almost impossible to find. Their customer service dept. is not very helpful and don't seem to really care that you can't find their toasters physically within the stores. I have always heard good things about Kitchen Aid's customer service dept. and decided to contact the store where I purchased my toaster. The lady informed me that she owns a toaster exactly like mine and that I obviously got a lemon. She said it browns toast great on the 3rd setting, whereas mine, even when placed on the last setting, doesn't want to brown. So...I decided to take mine back to the store and exchange in for another Kitchen Aid. I hope the new one works!!

:wall: I think I am going to scream! I just tried the new toaster and guess what? It doesn't work, either! I called Kitchen Aid directly and described the problem and they said I also had a defective toaster. They then questioned the shipping of the products as they swore that this particular toaster does not normally have problems. Now, I don't know if I want to try exchanging it or if I just want to get my money back. I saw a Rowenta on the internet, but I will have to wait on shipping and then, if something goes wrong with it, then I'm left waiting even longer. Anyone got any advice???? I'm so confused!

Okay...I realize that I have been having this conversation with myself, so if anyone would be brave enough to respond, I would really appreciate it.
I went to the store today and discovered that the entire batch of Kitchen Aid toasters were bad. So...I am back to square one with finding one that works. I would really like it if others would share the brand names of their toasters and whether or not they like them. That would help me make a decision as to which toaster to purchase.
Thanks.

Sucks about your toaster!
It's annoying when you have things, then they have problems, so you return them, then the product you get in place of it does the same thing...
Grr...
As for toasters sorry I can't help, we'll have different brands here!

I have a Kitchen Aid toaster and I'm really happy with it. I have the square shaped one, not the long, digital one. I like the fact that the top setting doesn't turn the toast into a blackened crisp like most toasters (what's up with that anyway?). I've owned a bunch of different toasters and I do think the Kitchen Aid is definatly the best.
Did the store indicate that it was a problem with just that shipment of toasters? I can't imagine that it's something that happens all the time, or Kitchen Aid would never be able to sell a toaster. s

The store wasn't sure if it was just the shipment they received, as they actually had two toasters sent to them from an out of town store to see if it was all of the toasters that they had in their warehouse. The KA consultant thought that perhaps the way the toasters were being handled during the shipping process may have had something to do with it. The interesting thing is that all the toasters had the exact same problem, so that leads me to believe that there was a defect somewhere in there. I may try purchasing the KA toaster from someone else and see what happens.

On the positive side... if your toast doesn´t burn, then your ears may hear well longer since the smoke alarm doesn´t go off.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but my toaster (cheap $20 thing--can't remember what brand) doesn't toast my bread the first time either. It toasts the roommate's bread just fine. I was perplexed, but then realized that I'm buying the locally baked, organic, extra-dense whole-wheat bread and he's mass-produced sandwich bread. I got my mom buying the same kind of bread as me and her kitchen aid toaster doesn't toast it the first time, either. Her toaster toasts the other "crappy" bread just fine. I think there must be a higher moisture/lower sugar content in the bread I'm eating. Maybe your toaster woes are related to the kind of bread you're using. Or maybe I just eat weird alien bread.

I thought about the type of bread, too. I actually went to another store today and had them check the KA toaster before buying it. It did the same thing. So, I called KA right there from the store and got some moron woman who said that the gentleman from KA that said all the elements should be turned on was wrong. (okay, but explain why all but one tiny section was totally lit on one of the toasters that I tried???) Anyway, she said the element will always vary each time I use it to toast (makes zero sense - how do you get even toast every time???) So, to make the long story short, I went to Walmart and bought a GE toaster that my husband's co-worker liked and actually made me some toast this afternoon that was, well, toast. Amazing....I spent $20 less and now, I have my toast. :)

This thread has just reminded me...have any of you ever heard the song "Toast" by Heywood Banks? It's great... he's singing about toast, accompanied by playing the toaster (Drumming with forks) :) My Brother got 3rd place performing it in the talent show last year :p

Good, I tried! You were sounding really stressed out over an appliance, and I thought you needed a laugh. Next time, remember what I´m told at least five times a day by resident Spaniards-- ¨Tranquilo... traaaanquilo... tranquiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiloooo.¨
