STOP THE FTAA - A New York City Teach-In and Skill-Share

WHEN:
6-10 PM, Thursday, October 30th

WHERE:
The Bronfman Center at NYU
7 East 10th Street (between University and 5th Avenue)
Take the F train to the West 4th Street stop or take the 4/5/6/N/R to
14th Street

WHAT:
Learn about the dangers of Corporate Globalization, the Free Trade
Area of the Americas, and What You Can Do About It!

The FTAA will give corporations sweeping new powers and unfettered
access to the Earth\'s natural resources, while limiting government\'s
ability to protect human rights, workers, and the environment. With
the collapse of WTO talks in September, FTAA negotiations at the Miami
Ministerial on November 17-21 will be fierce. Our actions today, as we
resist corporate globalization, will set the course for democracy,
equality, and sustainability in our hemisphere for years to come.

Join Rainforest Action Network, Global Exchange, United for Peace and
Justice, the Beehive Collective, and The Autonomous Social Movements
Caravan in collaboration with the Argentina Autonomista Tour to learn
about the disastrous effects of the FTAA and what you can do about
it.

PROGRAM:

*** Rainforest Action Network and Global Exchange, in cooperation with
local NYC organizations, will lead a teach-in on the FTAA, corporate
globalization, and the effects of human rights, labor, and the
environment, as well as coordinate discussions about planning for
local solidarity actions in NYC (http://www.ran.org )

*** United for Peace and Justice will share information about national
organizing for the upcoming FTAA mobilization, offer updates from
Miami, and will provide links between militarization and
globalization.

*** The Autonomous Social Movements Caravan and a Philippino labor
activist will share their first hand encounters with corporate
globalization and how they are fighting back (
http://members.aol.com/ autonomista1/caravan.htm)

*** The Beehive Collective, a radical artists collective dedicated to
global justice, will present their nine foot banner in opposition to
the FTAA ( http:// beehivecollective.org)

*** Stay afterwards to learn what you can do to stop the FTAA and
fight for fair trade.

*** Food will be served
