Hey All,

I'm kinda new here, as it's been almost two years since I contributed on these boards, and I have a whole host of new questions. This isn't for myself, as I'm quite happy taking my vegan EPA/DHA supplements (VPure), this is for my little boy. He's only 15m, so doing a massive amount of growing! I know a vegetarian diet is very safe to feed him, but I'm worried about him missing out on the omega oils. I can get a vegan supplement for him too, but it's a oil you have to add to food and even I can't stand the smell, so have had little success in getting him to take it! What should I do?

I've read conflicting research on how well our bodies utilise the omega oils found in walnuts, flax, and so on, so am worried that he could miss out on these vital elements. Hubby supports me fully when it comes to my own dietary choices, even though he has his own ideas :worried:, but our boy is where we might come unstuck as obviously he wants what's best for him too.

I found my daughter would take the vegetarian DHA mixed in with some earths best oatmeal. It has a lot of iron too, so I consider that her superfood breakfast! I put a half dose, not the whole thing. Also, if you are doing cows milk, you can buy milk that has DHA added, now that your LO is over one. I buy my daughter the organic DHA milk whenever I can find it.

Still, I nursed my daughter till almost 2, and took the DHA pills myself, so I figured she was covered more or less in the DHA department from nursing. Then when she hit two, she was able to eat the vegetarian DHA gummies. SHe loves them and asks for them all the time. I know she is getting a lot more DHA than her omni friends at school. Good luck!!!

If your liquid DHA smells that bad, it's probably rancid. What brand is it? I have used both Dr. Fuhrman's (citrus flavoured) and DEVA's (grape flavoured) liquid, and neither has a strong smell, usually. Occasionally the DEVA one will be a little off, but not to the point where it smells *really* bad. Dr. Fuhrman's is kept refridgerated to prevent rancidity, but I usually buy the DEVA one because it's less expensive and I haven't had too many bad bottles.

The supplement I have is a UK brand - Haliborange. I'd be surprised if it's off as it's not meant to be stored in the fridge or anything, and is within it's best before date. The other problem I have is that my son won't allow me to feed him anything, although sometimes he'll let me feed him yoghurt. I'll have another try. I was putting into his morning milk, but he wouldn't drink it so I stopped. It smells like fish! :dizzy:
