My son lost a tooth Tuesday (a toenail too, but that's another story). He put it in the pocket of our tooth fairy pillow and went to sleep. The tooth fairy must have been very busy that night because she was LATE! The tooth was still there when he checked before school. I told him I felt sorry for her, lots of kids must have lost teeth and she must just be running late. He told me to stay out of his room so I didn't scare her away when she came. When he got home he ran upstairs to check, she left him extra cash and the tiniest little note saying she was sorry she was late. She signed it "T.F." lol

We had that happen once too! (Mommy was very, VERY tired that night!) When my son came into my bedroom the next morning with his tooth proclaiming that the Tooth Fairy hadn't come it was time to think fast. I slapped my forehead and said, "That's because I totally forgot to email her that your tooth had come out!!!"
I remembered to email her and she came the next night. :D

That's funny! Luckily your son didn't leave a note asking for interest on the late payment!

My mom believed in the tooth fairy until she was 12 because one time her parents forgot to leave money under her pillow. The next morning she ran downstairs to tell her mother that the tooth fairy never came, and her father, who was getting dressed upstairs, heard the whole thing and ran across the hall to put change under my mom's pillow. When my mom went back to look, there was money! She was positive that the tooth fairy must have come in that 2 minute window when she was out of her bedroom!

My Mum did that when I was little. I bet your son will remember that fondly for the rest of his life. I know I'll always remember when I got a note from 'the tooth fairy'.

once my mother was late, I heard her in the hall go "oh crap" I was half asleep when I felt her digging under my pillow and jamming money under it.
its a pretty hilarious story considering the kids at my school were mean and told me no tooth-fairy/santa claus etc by the time I was like 6. I love that my mommy still went through the trouble for me though. I had to go change out my exs little sisters tooth pillow thing once, it was so cute!

aaawwwww, bless. i especially like the 'emailing the toothfairy' story. thats definately quick thinking! the toothfairy left me a very dainty and apologetic IOU once. it was suspiciously familiar in style to my mothers handwriting, but she explained that toothfairies, like infant teachers (she is/was one), have to have a very clear neat hand so that small children can read it.

I remember when I was about 6, someone in my class brought to school a note she had received from the tooth fairy.
I was so jealous.
