I have been trying to find out about any drug store cosmetic companies to see what ones (if any) dont include animal ingredients. I already know that Jane cosmetics, for example doesnt do any animal testing, but does anyone know if they include animal ingredients? Probably, but if someone knows what DOESNT could you help me out? Thank you
:D

Almay
Aveda
Bath & Body Works
Bobbi Brown Essentials
The Body Shop
Bonne Bell
Candy Kisses
Clinique
Estee Lauder
Hard Candy
Jane
Kiss My Face
Manic Panic
Revlon
Urban Decay
Don't test for sure.
You can check out Peta's "does not test" list:

As for which of these don't contain animal products not only does it depend on the company but on the actual product. The link above has a list of animal ingredients found in cosmetics so perhaps you can cross referrence that with the ingredients list on your makeup. You are right though, I know certain Jane products are vegan although I can't remember which ones! :)

All of the companies that Tiggzie mentioned contain animal products, though. Usually animal derived stearic acid and tons of beeswax. The mascaras usually contain laquer.
If you're looking for good make-up, with a wide range of color options, that are relatively inexpensive check out www.arbonne.com everything they make is animal product free. Also Ecco Bella (available in almost every HFS) has great mascara that goes for about $8 to $10. Aubrey Organics has excellent lip gloss, and Zuzu has good eye shadows, blush and wacky colored lipsticks for about $8 to $15. Kiss My Face has excellent foundation and tinted moisturizers. The moisturizers sell for $8 at my local HFS.

Actually, some of the companies she listed offer some products that do not contain animal derived products. With any products though PAveg*n, you must read the label and maybe even do a little research before purchasing if you really want to stay away from contributing to the exploitation of animals. It's a drag sometimes but worth the clear conscious.

Yeah what MsRuthieB said. That's why I mentioned the list of animal ingredients so that perhaps it would make it easier to find out what ingredients came from what. I'd do it too but I barely wear makeup. :)

Clinique does not test on animals, and almost all of their products are animal product free. Just ask.

Origins doesn't test on animals and they strive to not use ingredients of animal origin. However, sometimes that's not the easiest as this link attests. I'm impressed that they're giving full refunds for anyone who purchased one of their products expecting it to be vegan.

Anyhow...the apologies page also lists a bunch of their products that ARE vegan.
You will be able to find lots of helpful info on this topic just by doing a search on this board. I don't think you're going to find a completely vegan cosmetic line in the drugstore. You can contact me if you'd like an Arbonne catalog. I am a proud Arbonne independent consultant :D

I've quit wearing makeup for the most part, but when I do I wear Aveda, Eco Bella (I heard they might use some animal products though), and a few other makeup lines I find at health food stores. I think I'll send SallyK a tell asking for one of her catalogs! I'd feel much better helping a fellow veggie-friend out.

I find it too annoying to search the ingredients list of every type of cosmetic I wish to purchase from a company. It just seems easier to support companies that make it a point to offer all of their products animal product-free. It's the ambiguous chemical terminology that's a bit difficult to decipher, much more so than the obvious bits like gelatin and rennet in food products.
Origins lipsticks all contain beeswax as do their mascara, most companies touting their products as "natural" always manage to shove some beeswax in there. It's been my experience that mascaras and lipsticks are the most difficult, whereas blushers, eyeshadows, and foundations are the most likely products to not contain animal products.

Best bet for my money so far is Origins. They don't have many stores, but the products are widely available at Marshall Fields. The products are a bit pricey, but they last a long time. My teeny tiny tube of concealer that I'm using now is from like June.
I use Origins cleanser and it is amazing! Origins stuff seems pricey to begin with, but it lasts so long that I think it actually is a good value.
There's a vegan working at the Origins counter I frequent (at least, she's worked there the last few times I've bought things), so all I have to do is ask what's ok and what's not and she runs down the list of things. She even remembered me the last time and ran over to warn me that the product I was looking at wasn't vegan (beeswax, I think).
That's good to know about the stearic acid in Jane products. I think Jane is the drugstore off-shoot of Origins (which I think is the earthy department store off-shoot of Estee Lauder), so it doesn't surprise me that a lot of their stuff is vegan.

Did you know that Estee Lauder owns nearly all of the cosmetics companies you see in department stores? They try to keep it from being known, because they benefit from people thinking theyre choosing something different, therefore getting money from all them. Estee Lauder owns Jane, Origins, Clinique, MAC, Donna Karean cosmetics, Tommy Hilfiger toiletries, Aveda, Perscriptives, Aramis, Bobbi Brown... and many more.
Isn't that fascinating? Since I work in the industry, I was aware of this. With a company structured like this, you can pretty much gaurantee that some of their formulations are the same - for example, if you spend $2.50 on Jane mascara (just an example) or if you spend $25.00 on Estee Lauder brand mascara, the odds of it being the very same formulation are good. But you wouldn't ever really know for sure.
I found this website on Estee Lauder & all of the companies included.
