I'm sure I'm probably reading too much into this, but I just bought some lotion at Bath & Body works and it says "this finished product not tested on animals." I can't help wondering why they use the term "finished." Is it possible that at some other stage the product was tested on animals?

Quite possibly they received some of the ingredients from other companies that do test on animals. Not 100% certain, but that's probably why the specify 'finished product' .

I think Ruthie has it nailed.

I could be wrong but here is my take on it:

Bath and Body works has this to say on AT:

"What is your policy regarding animal testing?
We believe all living creatures deserve respect and would never think of testing any of our products on animals. Likewise, we don't ask anyone who may be helping us develop or make our products to conduct these kinds of tests on our behalf. "

I think they carefully put "finished product" because they sell to more than one country. Some countries do not allow "Not tested on animals" because at some point or another most chemicals have been tested on animals. By putting "Finished product not tested on animals" it signifies to consumers in those countries that this particular finished product was indeed not tested on animals even though at some point in history a particular chemical in the product was...

:)

I'll try to back up my claim but go ahead and use you B&BW. It's safe.

It might not be a concern, but most of their products are pretty loaded with animal products though, regardless of whether or not they were tested on animals. (Lanolin tested on sheep?!).

Someone had asked this question on peta2 's Nugget of Rage. Here's the link:

Wow. That Nugget of Rage person is a real condescending piece of work, hey?

Wow. I've never seen that Nugget of Rage thing. How rude and sh**ty can they be to people just wanting some veg advice?

Heeeyyyy I wasn't completely wrong :) Seeing that his name is "Nugget of Rage" I expected worse actually. But yeah, he could use some tea, maybe a dash of ritalin with a hint of a good smacking.

Wow, I like the way you think Tiggzie: reasonable to start with, but have no problem getting physical if necessary. ^_^

Thanks for all the good info everyone! I'm not vegan so I'm not familiar with all the animal ingredients yet (I'll have to look into that more), but I usually try to buy products that weren't tested on animals if I can help it.

Yeah I thought that the nugget of rage was pretty rude also...sorry, forgot to warn everyone about that! But the info was a little helpful, especially since I buy bath and body works products sometimes.

Oh yeah totally. I think we should contact the Nugget and get Vebo on his ass. :vebo: OOO look at those threatenting moves! :)

The Rage was so irritating I was compelled to send an appalled e-mail. I never e-mail anyone, and I'm rarely appalled. Whenever I start to think Peta might be OK again, they shove it down my throat that they are the suckiest sucks who ever sucked.

What an f-ing biznastard.

So true. That means it is not for Vegans and Vegetarians to use. Wait ... Are there some Vegans and Vegetarians use products (Soaps, Toothpastes, Deoderants, Etc.) with animals in them? if so, YUK!

Pinknixon, you should probably check them out and decide for yourself how you feel about them only because there seems to be strong, divisive opinions about them. Myself, I'm rather ambivalent. I like some of the stuff that they do (in theory especially), but am disgusted by them at other times. For instance, they ran a print ad a few years ago that depicted a cartoon image of a woman's body from just beneath the breats to mid thigh, clad in panties. Copious amounts of pubic hair were shown "peeking" from either side of the cartoon woman's chonies. The cut line read something like, "Isn't fur attractive?" MS magazine raised a stink about it, and rightfully so. I don't see why PETA needs to slam other (usually parallel) movements to get their ideas across. As we all know women are the majority in the veg*n/AR camp, so it doesn't make much sense to alienate them. That's why PETA bugs me sometimes.
