See my sig :)

Most difficult time I had was in holiday in Austria this August. Luckily I hadn't turned vegan then so I did actually get to eat stuff but it was so hard. They got no meat and fish but did not understand about lard, stock, rennet, gelatine etc. I actually found a restaurant (not the one at the hotel we stayed at, a different one) that did have a (English language) vegetarian section on the menu! One of the choices? "Penne pasta with a tomato and basil sauce and Parmesan" :brood: Ummmm... yay, I'm sure a vegetarian would love a bit of stomach lining in their meal... yum. :lick: I asked for it without the cheese and it was possibly the only meal I ate that I would be comfortable with calling vegetarian. Of course, I had no idea if they used stock etc in the sauce but I'm going to hope they didn't.
Really pissed me off because we actually booked this holiday with a company to try and make it as stress-free as possible (hence why I never made a fuss about stock, rennet etc as it would have stressed my mother out- long story) and I asked and double checked with the travel agent that the hotel we booked did have vegetarian options. They said yes. First night I get served a plate full of gelatine :brood:

I've been a vegetarian since January 2nd, 2008. So next January will be my Veggie Birthday. =] I've been vegetarian for 10 months, 2 weeks, and a day.

The hardest parts for me was trying to convince my mom that my turning vegetarian wasn't a phase, and was an actual rest-of-my-life decision. And I also had a bit of a struggle in the beginning, trying to make sure I eat healthier instead of becoming a Junk-Food vegetarian. And when going out with family and/or friends, we have to pick a place to eat where I have actual food and not just a small salad or something. So I feel a bit guilty, still, when one of them suggests someplace to eat[where I can only eat the side dishes] and I ask if we could go somewhere else[where I can actually have a real dinner].
Other then that, I haven't ran into a real bad snag because I'm vegetarian. =]

And also, happy late Veggie Birthday!

Ive been a vegetarian since May 2008. The hardest part for me was having my parents accept the fact I wasn't going to eat meat or fish anymore. The rest of my family members are pretty hardcore meat eaters.

Vegetarian since July 4, 2009 and vegan since September 1st, 2009.

Still fairly new at this, but looking forward to having many years of animal cruelty-free living :)
