Just wanna vent out..
My friend was eating a fishball, and my other friend said, "Hey u're eating fish.. i thought you were allergic.." and she said "no, only to other seafoods". I said "For a minute there i though you're veg too haha.," And this unknown girl standing near us whispered to her friend "she's veg? why is she so fat?!".
I dunno why but i suddenly thought to myself if you really need to be skinny if ur a veg. (and if i'm really THAT FAT) (btw is 63kg. 162cm fat? just asking..)

I think skinniness is a side effect of veg*nism.
I'm definitely slimmer than I was 6 months ago when I first went vegetarian.

Nope you don't. Some omni's are thinner than me and I'm vegan.

I checked your BMI and it said you have a BMI of 24 and that it is within the normal weight range.

Heavy veg*ns just prove that we have plenty of wonderful things to eat.

Well, if anyone eat a unhealthy diet, they will end up overweight.
People assume vegans/vegetarians eat a very healthy diet. Some do some do not.

its not precisely about your weight, its more of you fat "content", because like im 5'2 and 120 but my bmi is 19 i ust have muscle cause i work out, but im healthy, and i don't look bone skinny, but if you are getting all your nutrition and you aren;t eating lots of fats you should loose the fat but be able to keep the muscle

you might be a little over weight, but i wouldn't call you fat. just becuase you're veg doesn't mean you only eat things that are good for you P:
plus, there's other factors, you might just be built that way! i'm 165 cm and 50 kg. my family has a very healthy diet, so it reflects.
anyways, if your weight bothers you, do something about it. but if people are just being assholes, screw em :D

First of all I don't think the OP is overweight, especially given that we have no way of telling how much is muscle, how much is fat and how much is water. Also, people have different healthy weights that are right for them and people also carry weight differently. I think that's it's not fair to assume that just because someone isn't thin then they're eating badly- maybe the OP is, but there's also a chance that they eat healithy and are jus naturally at a higher weight than you are.

Does one need to be skinny to be veg? Nope, course not. Being skinny is a side-effect.
I lost little over 20 lbs in my first year of vegetarianism and am now at a BMI of 22. Most of what I lost is muscle. now, only 45% of my mass are muscle. 16% are fat (it's wintertime so that's ok).
Don't worry. Eat healthy food healthily, do sports. soon, you won't even think about the question of weight anymore.

Heck no! I'm pretty overweight and I've been veggie for 2 and a half years (I ate too much cheese). Now I'm vegan I've lost a bit of weight but being at uni, I'm living off junk food :D

Veggie for 11 years and I've always had problems with my weight but it runs in my family. Besides, liking to eat and being lazy are not exclusive to meat eaters. :p
Unlike my meat eating family though I have NO blood pressure issues. :D

i wasn't clear, sorry. i didn't mean you as in the OP, i meant you in the general sense of the word.

I'm definately thinner than I was a few years ago since I went vegetarian, and I've lost even more weight being vegan. But you're definately not fat.
and I know some REALLY large people who are vegetarian/vegan, it doesn't make ALL the difference in the world, it just makes you healthier (generally) =]

I'm a vegan, the skinnyness generally comes from that rather than lacto ovo. I have a hard time maintaining my weight but that's generally me forgetting to eat lunch thus not getting enough calories. A veg*an lifestyle can be generally healthier than an omnivore's but as there is veg*an junk food it really depends on the person.

I didn't lose much weight when I became vegetarian or when I became vegan and actually started eating healthy. I wouldn't say I'm skinny but I'm not overweight, I'm average. I've never been really thin and no one in my family is either. I've met quite a few overweight veggies who live off of junk food.

i'm fairly thin (5'8 and 118 pounds) and going vegan definitely took a few pounds off (cheese!)
but i know vegetarians who range from slightly underweight like myself to borderline obese. it all depends

No. I'm not fat, but I'm certainly not stick thin! 5'5-6 and roughly 135lbs (61.2kg) give or take. I haven't weighed myself in months, simply because I don't care! People obsessed with that annoy me to no end. But when I was 13-15, I took a medication that caused me to gain a lot of weight. I was 160lb (72.5kg) at one point. It also didn't help I ate a lot of cheese. I've been vegan for almost a year now, though, and I can clearly see an improvement in my body. Mentally, physically, emotionally...
I think the whole 'veg*ns are super thin and sickly' things is because we are supposed to be soooooo unhealthy for not getting a daily amount of animal flesh protein in our bodies! How can we possibly survive without wasting away without it?!
Just noticed this thread is a few months old. Ah well.

Vegetarians aren't necessarily über skinny, but all the vegans I've ever met are always very skinny.
Me? I'm 6'3" and I keep losing weight from going vegetarian D:

Doesn't really matter how much you weigh; just as long as you're heathy.
