This has me so outraged! Why not build green houses and support our produce farmers instead? They spent so much money to save something that was finally dying.

Because people over-consume meat, and will never admit that it's not a 'staple' or 'inhumane' in anyway (as that would compromise their morning bacon and they wish to live in complete disillusion as they like the taste).
Yeah...and we're the crazy hippies on this side of the argument.....as always.

What I took from that is that the pork industry is failing and profits are down and that's why they need to streamline and restructure in an attempt to save it, how successful they are is something we will see in time. Not necessarily bad news, although it isn't fun to see the government pumping more money into it it's hardly surprising. People always fight to maintain the status quo but change still happens in spite of them.
