View Full Version : Yesterday was my anniversary

Sweetest Day 2003 marks the end of 6 years and the beginning of 7. It feels like I've known him forever. The truest purest love I've ever known.
He wakes me yesterday with a cup of coffee and the most beautiful Iris from the backyard. And a lovely card. Funny thing is he gave me one that said "for my wife" and I gave him one that said "for my husband". I suppose our souls are married.
Later I made breakfast and a love cake. I should have took a pic of it before we cut it but I didn't get to it in time before the man started chowing down. He doesn't like frosting so I did something a little different. I made a heart template from a heavier grade of paper and sprinkled it with powdered sugar.
We went out to eat at my favorite place last night. It's a docked ship on Lake Erie that serves the best vegetarian plate. It's wild rice and big marinated portabello's drizzles with a sun dried tomato marinara. Then they add about 3 polenta cakes on top and drizzle it with a pesto sauce. Steamed asparagus comes on either side. Wonderful! We watched the sun set and the lights come on Downtown afterwards. Then we went home, cuddled up, and watched a movie.
No fancy gifts or anything. Just feeling his heart and knowing that I'm loved made the day wonderful.

Happy Anniversary!
So do you always celebrate on Sweetest Day even if it's not the exact anniversary date?

Yep, it's always Sweetest Day. We are so bad at remembering dates. Our first date was Sweetest Day, so that's what we call our anniversary (since we're not married). We ended up going to a sports bar and grille to watch the Cleveland Indians in the World Series on our first date. They lost..but it was a good game. My sister and her husband went with us. It was my first date in 12 years. Boy was I nervous and so was he. He knocked over 2 drinks before the night was through. I learned that night that he really can't drink. Once in a blue moon he'll have a beer or two but that's about it.

happy anniversary! It sounds like you had a wonderful day. :)
my husband and i are celebrating our first wedding anniversary today--but we're not celebrating really because we don't do those sorts of things. not a lot of fanfare.
what we are doing is going hiking with the yoga studio and his parents for a few hours and eating raw vegan scones on the trail instead of the over-processed stuff. WOOHOO! and raw vegan trail mix. YAY!
Anyway, it is nice to know that you love each other, isn't it?

Congrats Zoebird! I hope you have a lovely day too. It's feels all warm and fuzzy don't it?
Congratulations on finding what was hidden, a gift just for you. Kudos’ on keeping it alive!
Too bad you can only have 2nd best cause I know these men cannot be as good as the prince.
Kamila... wishing you giggles and grins (an a little bit of sweet sweat for you zoe) mixed with just enough tears to keep the shoulders soft.

Congratulations to you both MsRuthieB and Zoebird.
Congratulations! That all sounds so sweet.
And congrats to Zoebird, too.
My younger brother who never talks about girls asked my mom yesterday if it was sweetest's day. After she said yes, he rushed into his bedroom. Hmmm. I don't dare ask him, he'd be so mad!

That's very sweet, Ruthie. Your cake looks really cool! What did you use for the swirls?

I had coloring left from when I used to be a cake decorator on the side. I actually stole the idea from a mix I saw in the store. I reserved about a cup of the mix and split it into two separate bowls. I added just a touch of sky blue and a touch of fushia and to the bowls. I then added big plops of color on top and swirled it with the cake scraper.

I like that! It's easy to remember and also a holiday meant for romance!
I've never heard of sweetest day before. Weird? I like it though, as I found this (http://www.creativechocolates.com/sweetestday.html) and it sounds fantastic!
You know Ruthie, as long as you two consider yourself married, you are! Don't let an official church or government certification hold you back. (But do get one for tax benefits. ;) :D)
This sounds like something you could do some Sweetest Day... I had a teacher in college who was engaged to a man who was very sick and dying from cancer. They wanted to get married before he died, so they organized an outdoor wedding. The engaged two and their parents and friends all hiked up a trail to the top of an open mountain and proclaimed their marriage in front of everything present. I wish I could show you one of their pictures from the event, it looked really great, they had the most amazing view!
Now that's sweet. :smitten:
PS - It's really great reading this story after actually meeting you two!

Thanks Mikie. I had no idea it started in Cleveland or that it wasn't a nationwide holiday. That's a nice story btw Mikie.
Yesterday at dinner we decided the big thing we're going to do next. It probably won't happen anytime soon, but it's definitely in the future. We've decided rather than buy a house that's already built we are going to have a log cabin built. We want a little piece of land that would afford privacy and a ton of trees, yet be close enough to work so that the commute isn't a drag. I'd like one of those stone hearths in the living room and a wrap around porch. And I'd like it to be solar heated/cooled or some kind of system that would work with the environment instead of against it. So, we have our next goal. I'm thinking that buying the land first would be the way to go..you know, to layer the expenses. Anyhow, it's good to know that we both are working toward the same major goal.
Congrats :)
Log Cabins are so nice.. great goal. :)
That sounds awesome awesome, Ruthie!!
You should check out the architecture section the next time you go to the book store. Most decent size bookstores have an entire shelf section on architecture, and they usually have at least one half to one shelf on green architecture. If you picked up a book I bet you'd get a lot of ideas and learn a lot of do's and don'ts.
Many states give tax cuts and/or have programs which help people pay for alternative energy now. If you stay plugged into the grid, a lot of places will pay you for when the meter runs backwards!

That's really sweet. Normally, I'm not sappy in the least, but the hormones are raging right now and I must admit I got a little teary eyed reading your post.
Anyhow, good luck on the log cabin. That sounds awesome.
Ruthie, in Oklahoma, you are married after six months together. Ready or not.
