I'm fairly new to this, not even a week. I've tried before and couldn't do it due to the fact that we didn't have the food..

I'm really not a sweets person, but when we have them, I want em'. My parents brought home two cheesecake slices and I'm on the verge of going in the kitchen and indulging them.. Problem is, I can't find any desserts that are already pre made so I don't have to wait.

I need some help.. Would it be wrong of me to make a slip a day before a week? I don't want it to ruin how long I've been trying, but at the same time I wanna' eat it so bad..

Anyone else have friends/parents etc bring a dessert that you wanted? I need help! We also dont have any whole food markets near us :(.

I'm Ovo-lacto for now because I can't quite give up eggs or dairy. I could most likely give up both, but I'm still getting used to everything. Hoping this is still allowed?

I vote for tofutti cuties - buy a box and keep 'em in the freezer for when you NEED to eat dessert. They're vegan "ice cream" sandwiches, like 140 cals or something and really delicious. Even my meatie friends agree! They have them at WFM and have other variations at major grocery stores.

Tofutti pops are really good too and ridiculously low in calories, like 40 or something... I eat 'em in pairs! They're like vegan fudgesicles.

If you're staying with ovo-lacto, I'd say you can also get some pudding cups or something to keep in the cupboard for when you need a treat.

I'm a TOTAL sweet tooth. I don't keep stuff in the house I can't eat, but you can't help what other people bring home.

I have some recipes that I can whip in in no time when the sweet tooth beckons. They all use ingredients that I normally stock in the house anytime.

Here is the link to one of the recipes. If you don't have raspberries in the house you can substitute any canned/frozen fruits you have lying around. Oh ya, if you don't have buttermilk, just put a tablespoon of vinegar in soy/milk for about 10 minutes and voila! instand buttermilk.

For some easy store bought items:

chocolate silken tofu- it tastes like chocolate pudding
If you are in the U.S.- oreos
Many stores carry soy or rice based icecreams

It's certainly allowed here. If you are not tring to stay away from eggs or dairy, most baked goods would still be available to you. I would say it is rather rare to find one that contains meat.

If you're lacto-ovo, then what's the problem with the cheesecake?

I can say from experience that even a vegan diet isn't akin to a life of sacrifice and we can enjoy rich, indulgent desserts as well as anyone else can!

I looked on the back and it sadly contained gelatin. Maybe that was just in the strawberry topping? Who knows, but I didn't want to take the chance with the plain slice:down:.

Ah. Well that was an important detail to leave out!

A lot of premade cookies and things are veg*n. Oreos, for example, are vegan. Even better though, check out Newman O's. The ginger ones are my favorite!

As a lacto-ovo there should be heaps of options. Cheesecake is definitely still a posibility as they aren't always made with gelatin.
Maybe you could ask your parents to help you out and give them some ideas of stuff you would like... that way they could bring something for you next time they bring something home that you can't have.

Just FYI - Oreos are always vegetarian, but they're not always vegan. Apparently, it depends on when/where they were made, as different Nabisco facilities use different recipes at different times. Check the ingredients list. They randomly add/remove whey from the ingredients every few months just to confuse us.

Although, come to think of it, I haven't seen any with whey in at least a year or two, not that I buy them or check that often. But I just bought some this week for the first time in months, and they were vegan.

What!? I would have never expected Oreos to be vegan. *Is excited*

Oh. Thought so... I hope they have whey-free Oreos at the store then.

Last week I tried Turtle Mountain's Purely Decadent Coconut Milk Ice Cream and it is one of the tastiest things I have ever put in my mouth. It is completely vegan and made from coconut milk. It was so rich, you'd never guess that there was no real cream used. It comes in a few different flavors. I highly recommend it! Plus, there is a lot of research that shows that coconut products are good for us, even though coconut contains saturated fat. The type of fat in it is formed from medium chain fatty acids, which evidently are good for our hearts. So, don't feel too guilty about the fat content.

Hello childofthesea! It's great that you discovered Purely Decadent coconut milk ice cream. It's the best dairy-free ice cream, IMHO. You might also like some of Turtle Mountain's other coconut milk products made under the brand name So Delicious: yogurt, kefir, creamer, and beverages (like soy milk, only better!)

I am going to have to look for some of their other products. That ice cream IS the best I've ever had, real or soy or rice. It's just delicious. It will be easy to be vegan with that stuff out there!
