What are you going to do to celebrate?

Really, I want to ask advice on my own plans (if you could even call it a plan). I literally JUST found out like an hour ago about October being Vegetarian month and October 1 being World Veg Day. I really want to do something in my community or college, but I fear it may be too late

Specifically, I would like to have like a potluck picnic kind of thing. Like book a park and have people bring veg*n dishes and just have a good time. And I could provide educational leaflets too maybe. And I could put flyers or posters up places, or hand out leaflets at my college or something.

I just have absolutely no idea how to go about getting that kind of thing set up at all. I'm also a minor (17, I turn 18 later in October) so I don't know if that would affect anything (though my parents would probably help me out with anything that being a minor would be a problem for).

Like, where the hell do i start?! Lol! There's no veg groups or clubs or anything around here, so I'm really kind of alone in this right now. I don't even know any other vegs. Who do I talk to about arranging something in the community?

I realize it's probably way too late to arrange something for October 1, so I'll probably just try to make my family eat vegan for the day (or month haha, they'll hate me). But for further reference, does anybody know what to do? It was easy arranging something in high school, I just had to talk to the principle. Now I'm lost. Thanks for your help!!

Do you have any health food stores nearby? If so they may already be doing something that you could donate your passion and talents to.

As far as school goes, a cool idea might be to talk to the cafeteria supervisor and see if they would be able to provide a veg*n menu option that day (if they don't already) and maybe you could arrange to have a brochure/info packet to be distributed with the entree. Maybe also set up a informational table outside the cafeteria so interested students could pick up some info. It might also be cool to put out a sign-up sheet to see if there is any interest in a veg*n club for campus.

There are two health food stores kind of nearby, they are close to two of the campuses I attend (my college had 3 campuses and I unfortunately have classes across all 3 lol). I'll probably stop by both this week to see.

My college does not have a cafeteria that I know of, though. I have not been to the main campus yet (I have my first day of the class there tomorrow), so I might look around to see if there is one. I know there are always these vegan cookie displays by the registers at all the bookstores on the campuses, though, so maybe I'll see if the bookstore people know anything xP

Thank you so much for you suggestions!

Heather

Why donīt start your own Club. You will see if thereīs any response to your efforts. Worse than nothing it can not be... Out of a seed shall become veggies.

Hmm. I'm pretty sure in my school, I'm one of the few, if not the only, vegetarians in my school. So there, I won't celebrate LOL. At home, I'll probably make some delicious spaghetti w/marina and some type of fake meat (like Morning Star sausages :lick:) crumbled in it.

That is awesome!

World Veg Day is also my sister's b-day... I have no idea what I will do. I guess I could bake her a vegan cake...

Happy World Vegetarian Day everyone! ^___^

Today I plan on making something. A cake or something delicious from my cookbook.
If it doesn't happen today, then tomorrow.

Yay for World Vegetarian Day!

Is it traditional to hang our stockings next to the fireplace tonight so the soy-fairy can stuff them full of tofu while we sleep?

I think that's a regional thing. Around here, the tradition is to leave a plate of hummus and falafel for Father Vegetarius.

Oh man, I'll have to run out and buy meaningless last minute gifts and pretend I didn't forget!
