Does anyone else find it really hard to eat things like chicken-style burgers and nuggets? We tried them a couple of weeks ago at a family bbq and my daughter and I felt really weird as they are SO like real chicken nuggets we felt as though we were eating meat!

I really like some of the convenience meat-style foods but also find myself wanting to spit them out as they are a bit TOO lifelike!

The very realistic products are the ones to tell your ominvore friends about to get them to try. My ominvore picky teenage nephew loves the Fry's schniztels even more than a real chicken sandwich (but he'd never admit to liking vegetarian food) :D

Yes - I'll try them out on visiting kids!!

The faux meats I eat are ones that I consider food in their own right, not an imitation of something else. Like Redwood's 'chicken' sandwich meat, it tastes nothing like chicken but I like it as a separate product. There are a few things I've tried that are so like real meat I couldn't eat them, and felt a bit sick.

I love Frys nuggets :o But that is more because I'm a fool for anything with a breadcrumb coating. I suppose they might be quite realistic... I don't really remember what real chicken nuggets are like now!

I know how you feel though - I've had some fake meat style stuff that I find too realistic and it puts me off a bit. For me it isn't the taste but when products really try to mimic the texture and appearance of real flesh.

I've read quite often that vegetarians and vegans gradually come to stop seeing meat as a food product at all - so that might be why the realistic "fake meat" veg products can be unappetising.

My omni OH loves them and doesn't complain about them so they are good enough for me. I can't really remember what a chicken actually tastes like. I think they should be sold in bigger packages though.

I'm sometimes uneasy about eating fake meat if someone else has cooked it and I haven't seen the packaging, especially on a buffet table - even though I trust my friends not to feed me meat, if it looks like meat, something in my brain tries to tell me not to eat it!

I remember one wedding I played at a few years ago where there were some veggieburgers on the buffet table (this was when I was l-o veg) and the server said they were veggieburgers but they looked like meat, so I got one of the meat eaters to try one and they couldn't say for definite if they were meat or non-meat, so I didn't trust them! In that case it could have been that the server had got it wrong... but I have issues eating anything meaty-looking if I haven't cooked it myself, my brain just doesn't get it.

I don't mind eating fake meats if I cook them myself but I hardly ever do, I don't really go for the stuff that's supposed to be identical to meat. Veggie sausages yes, but I don't really consider that to be a fake meat, it's its own thing, if that makes sense.

I thought the frys ones were horrible!!!

The frys burger patties taste like meat though which weirds me out!

Oh man, we had the Fry's schnitzels for dinner the other night and my newly l-o mum and sister LOVED them but I was like :S because it tastes like a giant chicken nugget. It was so weird for me... I kept eating it but I don't think I really particularly like it at all. My mum and sister raved about it and say it's a go-to convenience food so I don't want to knock it in front of them (it might discourage them since my sister especially is picky with vegetarian protein sources)... but it just freaked me out.
