Well, it looks like we've had a few hamsters out for some hikes. I hope we get to see some of those pictures soon. :D

Oooh, sounds like fun, freemouse!! I can't skate......

Yesterday I did an hour of spinning, a few weights, some abs, and went for a 2 mile walk.

We'll see what happens today.

Good luck, CaptainSwab! Have a great marathon! :hamster:

I ran about 3 miles today. New pain. The last half mile I was having pain in the top of both feet. Maybe I tied my shoes too tight? Or it was the long hill? It seems to be feeling better now. It was a great run though. One of those kind that just felt like you could run forever.

I can't wait to hear from CaptainSwab about the marathon. Are you going to watch, MsKedi?

I strength trained today! :hamster: But now I have to go study federalism

Yeah, I watched the marathon for about 1 1/2 hours and chatted with the people working the mile post and the cop who was enforcing the barricades. I love marathon day in L.B! Everyone (but the crazy people who decide to drive (!) ) is totally nice.

Unfortunately, it's kind of hot here today. It was overcast for a couple weeks, and then yesterday was crazy hot. Today there's a breeze, but it's still a little warmer than optimal running weather. I hope CaptainSwab's doing great! My apartment is at mile 22 1/2 and I can't remember if/when the half and the whole meet up, so who knows if she even ran by me or not. Oh well. I screamed a bunch for all of the people who did. :D

And among the people I talked to was another woman who hasn't been up to running, either, so in the meantime she's joined some walking group in my city (who knew?), so she gave me a website and I'm thinking I could do some walks with them until I get myself back up to running. Maybe. I'll check into it, anyway.

And since my knee has been doing so much better, I decided to do some lower body weights. Incredibly light weights, mind you -- no more than 8 pounds -- and I was prepared to stop at the first pang of pain or the first popping sound, but I got through it all! :vebo: I figure I'll keep the weights really light this week, but I'm glad to be reintroducing that. Hopefully I'll be able to build up the muscles around my knee so that when I am able to run again I won't be so injury prone.

The marathon was really inspiring. I'm going to take really good care of my knee so I can be a part of it next time. :)

Hey guys!

1/2 Marathon today. Boy was it hot. :sunny: Too hot for running, just as you said Mskedi. I was happy I wasn't running the full marathon. 13.1 miles was enough for me today. Hard to beleive that we are going to double that by March for the LA marathon. I felt great though. I never got tired. My legs got a little numb around 12 miles, but that was it. I was defitly more prepared for this 1/2 than my last one. Can't beat the scerery either, considering we ran past the queen mary and then along the bike path along the ocean for awhile. Plus they had a band playing and lots of food for us at the finish. :D

Mskedi, the full marathonars split from us at about mile 11 (I think) when we were on shoreline drive (I think). The full marathon course met back up with the 1/2 marathon course at mile 23, so I guess I never passed your place. We actually did have one full marathonar pass us (both races started at the same time). I think some guy from Kenya. Wow, you should have seen this guy run.

Anyways, you are lucky that you live there if you decide to enter one of those races next year. Traffic was backed up onto the freeway (on broadway) at 6:45am! It took us 40 minutes just to make it to the convention center parking. I'm thinking of taking the meterolink into LA for that marathon. I can't imagine what parking is going to be like there.

Oh, and as for the walking clubs, they had an entire seperate catagory for the 1/2 marathon just for racewalkers, so maybe that will be something you can work on with your knee for now?

Anyways, I've rambled on long enough. Thanks for the encouregement guys!

Thppt. All that screaming for nothing! :p :) I was only 1/2 a mile away... you might have heard me. :D
I'm glad it went so well for you!! :hamster: You rock!

That's definitely something to think about. Thanks! Also, I guess they had the bicyclists go early in the morning before the runners, so that's another option.

For L.A. it looks like racewalkers are part of the marathon. Hopefully I'll be running by March, but I may not be able to start training in time to do that, so maybe I'll walk it (?). I'd feel kinda wimpy amidst the runners, but I bet it'd still be fun. :) And yeah, public transportation is a must.

Mskedi, I wouldn't worry about being self-consous around all the runners. They are expecting 23,000 runners at LA this year. When you have that many people there, there are bound to be A LOT of race walkers. Anywys, most of the people my dad and I were around in todays race were running in some combo of running/walking. I think its common for 10 or 5 min running, and 1 min walking. Pretty much anybody in a club will run like that (LA leggers, team in training, the loapers, etc) Oh, and they have a 5K at LA, so you could always do that to join in on the fun, knee permiting of course. :D

Freemouse, that article reminded me of one that I read a couple of days ago. There is a man who just turned 90. He started running at the age of 55. He has ran 8 consecutive LA marathons. 2004 will be his 9th and they are honoring him by adding the first ever 90+ age catagory in the race. Can you imagine running 26 miles at the age of 90?

my goals for this week are:
Monday: to do yoga

Hey CaptainSwab! Way to go!!! Sounds like you had a great race! Awesome! :vebo:

Freemouse, nice run, I love to ice skate but I only do it outdoors.

Rainbowmoon, Great Hamstering!

Mskedi, Hopin' you'll get well soon!

Sky, I have to be careful not to tie my shoes to tight or my feet will get sore as I run...I love runs where I feel like I could run forever...hoping to feel like that at the marathon!

Cissy, glad you got your strength training in...sorry about the federalism thing :)

Funk, good day for you! ;)

@Raeven, excellent hamstering! and yes I would include the running around at work. :)

Flower, sorry your heads hurtin' that stinks! It was such a nice day.

For me...yesterday I partied all day and all night  so I deemed it a rest day.
Today, 5 mile run and 2 hours hiking in a state forest...the color were increadible! It was a perfect day!

Hamster on!

slynny, actually this is the first time that I skated indoor! Grew up in Beijing, I only skated on a lake in winters, but hehe.. :sunny: <-- this hawaiian thing is sort of warm. I was so bossy that chased all the teen boys off to the corners of the rink :p

slynny, Captain, and all, you guys worked me up to a boiling point and I signed for a 10k next month (hubby lured me into it because it gonna be on his B-day blah blah, they offer free T-shirt blah blah, the fee is cheap blah blah....)

freemouse can run on four paws, right? right? :vebo:

I'm determined to start speedwork this week. I just ran five miles and the classmate I'm in academic competition with beat me by two minutes. This is unacceptable.

(It's a friendly competition on all fronts - we study together and now it looks like we'll be training together).

Freemouse,

Hehehe...I would gladly give up skating on my outdoor pond for an indoor rink in Hawaii :sunny: How nice for you to have a place to skate...very cool!
A 10K! awesome! Way to go Freemouse :vebo:

Thanks captain :)

Veggiemre, that's an excellent way to train! You'll get um next time! :)

Slynny, cute avator! :D

I'm taking today off. I have a sore throat. I don't know if its from dehydration or if I'm getting sick. I found out that it was 86 degrees yesterday at 11:30am right on the beach.

CaptainSwab- Ok, you ran a 1/2 marathon, didn't you?!?!. Rest, my dear, rest. :D
Someday I really really want to run a marathon, so I intend to train for a half by the spring...do you think then after an additional 7 months of training I could run a full marathon?

Yesterday I ran 5 miles, walked two, and did an hour of pilates.

I'm sure you'll do great in the 10K freemouse. I should have run one of those over the summer...

Yes CaptainSwab, it is rest time for you! Good job in the half!

Yoga for me yesterday.

Today: upper body work.

Minmo
10-13-03, 07:36 PM
Almost three miles this morning.
200 crunches
upper body strength training

How do you guys make time for all this run 15 miles plus an hour of pilates plus an hour of the elliptical trainer plus 3 hours of weights plus a kickboxing class plus 2 million crunches all in one day?!?

Minmo (yeah, it's been awhile since I've poked my head in, hasn't it)

lol, Minmo! That's certainly not my schedule... :)

Slynny, your avatar rocks! Where are you finding these? I'm jealous. :p

CaptainSwab -- you are very deserving of rest. I hope you're not getting sick.

I didn't realize how weak my legs had gotten since I hurt my knee until I woke up this morning -- I was totally sore from the wimpy weights I did yesterday. I mean, about as sore as if I'd done the routine with 100lb weights. Ridiculous! At least I'm able to do a little again.. hopefully I'll get back into the groove.

Okay... my plan tonight is to take an hour walk, do my upper body weights, some sit-ups, and yoga. I have a lot of grading to do, though, so I need you guys to bludgeon me if I don't get it done. Thanks. :)

Keep hamstering!
