We just found out this week that the rottweiler that lives downstairs from us has a cancerous tumor on his leg. The are finding out today whether or not it's in the bone or muscle. If muscle then more than likely he'll loose his leg. If in the bone, there's a high probablility that he will die within 3 months (from what the vet said). Either way it is very sad.

My boyfriend came upstairs Wednesday night. He was teary eyed. Said that he felt like his heart was breaking thinking about what our friends (Max's mom and dad) were going through. Being this compassionate about something having to do with an animal is different for his character.

So, we began discussing. He confided in me that he's closer to the animals because of what he's learned from me since I became a vegetarian. Months and months ago he stopped eating about half of the flesh he used to (including chicken and most pork). He never ate seafood, so basically what he eats now is very limited as far as meat goes.

Anyhow, back to what I started to say. He confided in me that he can feel himself not wanting to hurt the animals anymore by continuing to eat them. In the little over a year that I've been vegetarian, he's over half way to becoming one himself. I feel that it won't be much longer now before he asks me to teach him how to be a vegetarian.

I've been very careful through the last year to only give information when he asks or answer questions very tactfully so's not to put him on the defensive about his choices. Well, my gentle approach seems to be working in big ways.

Ah, better late than never! :)

That's so great! I really do think that "living by example" and being non-confrontational about it does a lot more good than other, harsher ways. My hubby has definitely changed a lot without me nagging him. He's even tried being vegetarian off and on.
