I want to get a compost pile started so I can get my garden going nice and easy next spring! I have my own YARD now!! SO excited, no more container garden for me!!

Anyway, so I have this big yard with loads of sunlight in some places, like 85% of the day... and other places that it comes and goes based on the shadows.

Is there a right or wrong place to put the pile? I'm a composting noob. :)

You don't want it in direct sun because it will dry out too fast. Ours is under a tree that gets filtered sun, but generally stays moist.

Sweet, forgot I asked this here. The yard gets sunlight most of the day but there is a good area under a couple trees that may be sun-free a decent amount of the day. Those trees DO need to go, though... I'll have to start popping out into the yard to check on where the sun hits. I just didn't want the pile to be on the patio if I could help it. That seems to be the shadiest part of the back yard.

Now to decide once and for all how much of the backyard will be my garden. I hope I don't anger the hubby (who never goes out anyway) with my plot to take over the lawn, LMAO!
