Anyone have that problem?
I've was raw for 7 months. Then my hair started falling out. I've recently added salmon and some cooked vegies to my diet again.
The hair hasn't been falling out as much, but it still is a bit.
I was told I didn't have to use supplements...but I'm leaning towards that now too.
Anyone have any other suggestions? :help:

there was a thread somewhere around ...here (http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=2895) that touched onnit... i looked it up for my friend a couple of weeks ago, in her case it sounded like the hair loss was probably due to losing a substantial amount of weight so rapidly.
but we read that too much vitamin a(which i'm guessing you'd probably get a lot of on a raw diet) can cause it too, so maybe you should try looking there first.

Seems like a lot of vegetarians in general experience this. I've seen similar threads on other message boards but no definitive answer, just a lot of theories. So not sure what to tell you other than you're not alone. :-/

Hmmm... I have a receding hairline but in my case it's more genetic than anything else.
Difficult to imagine that there is anything in salmon that stops hair loss....
I can not recall reading anything about a connection between raw foods and hair loss.

I've been having the same problem. I just can't figure out how to get as much of the nutrients as I need without eating a gazillion calories a day. I usually don't go over 900-1200.
I'm going to sit down with my copy of Becoming Vegan again and try to make up a chart or something, I guess.

Stress can make your hair fall out--after weeks, though. Think back a few months, and try to remember if you were really stressed out. Hair can start to fall out anywhere from 6-10 weeks after your "stressed out" period.
Make sure you're getting a B12 suppliment. You can't find that in food.

That's a good point, jwnyc...my life has been a stress-fest for the past few months.

I'm going to start taking a swiss multivitamin and see what that does.

We're u just saying the b12 thing as a side note or is that known to be a reason for hair loss?

I'm a vegetarian and have been having the same problem. I take all the supplements I'm supposed to and I'm sure I get enough protein (I might try upping it a little bit more anyway). It's not that bad and not noticeable yet, it's just more than I'm used to. I don't get it.

After about 6 months of being veg*n I noticed my hair was coming out easier than I'd ever seen it before. At the time, I really just didn't know what I was doing. I wasn't getting enough protein, I was still eating refined grains, drinking soda nearly daily, and potatoes were probably an eighth of my diet!
After adding fortified soymilk to my diet, switched to whole grains, switched to dark leafy greens, switched to good oils, started taking flax seed oil, started taking a multivitamin, started riding my bike more, and essentially just started being healthy, that's when I no longer noticed it.
Hair loss can be attributed to dozens of things. Just be healthy! Sleep normal hours, excercise, take a multivitamin, eat healthy - whole grains, lentils and beans, dark leafy greens, fruits and veggies - and don't be stressed! You'll be fine, and once you're back to being healthy, then cut out that salmon! :notvegan:
Just don't panic! You're hair will stop falling out within days of you finding out what it was you weren't getting.

Uh-oh. Look out for scary angry raw foodists...

Scary angry raw foodists can eat whole grains, lentils, and beans from what I understand. They can soak things, sprout them, blend them, press them, and dehydrate them... just not expose them to temperatures higher than 120ºF.

Yah.. I know. I was doing my smartypants act. Heh... :o
(beside I'm having hard time seeing Oatmeal et al enraged at the sight of recomendations of non-raw foods in this thread....bah..)
