I would love to get back into my Wine drinking... I was wondering if anyone might know what affordable brands of NZ and Aus wine are considered Vegan?
Also, whilst I'm at it, what supermarket brands of Shampoo/Conditioner are Vegan, if any? (My mum buys these, and I will only be able to get her to switch if the brands are from the supermarket).

First of all, I'm in Sydney but hopefully you can get this or something similar nearby. We have them in Coles supermarkets. I've gotten my mum hooked on some of these products...
Natures Organics (http://www.naturesorganics.com.au/splash.htm) make products for haircare, skincare, cleaning etc. They're fairly cheap too.
"Our science requires no animal cruelty or animal ingredients. We have never tested on animals nor do we employ the use of any party to participate in this practice on our behalf. We do not purchase ingredients from suppliers that use this practice. We are CCF (Choose Cruelty Free) accredited."
When I emailed them last year, I received this reply:
Thank you for your enquiry today, expressing your concerns as to our authenticity with our animal friendly products.
We understand that as a company to state such a claim we have to abide by strict regulations. On the website stated below are the criteria for accreditation for you to review. The criteria is a long and thorough process which we must first of all qualify for then continue to abide by to stay affiliated as a member.
Our Company stands by our statement that our products are NOT tested on animals NOR do we purchase our ingredients from companies who have animal-derived ingredients.
I would encourage you to view the site www.chosecrueltyfree.org.au as this explains the criteria for this accreditation.
For more information on all our ranges please feel free to check out our website www.naturesorganics.com.au
Good luck finding something suitable!
Not sure on the wines but I have seen this company at the vegan expo, so they must offer something safe-to-drink. Sorry I can't be more helpful, my tastebuds and wine don't go well together :-/ http://www.macquariedale.com.au/index.html

These days Australian wines are labeled with what they are fined with. Any vintage after 2002 will state if the wine was fined with fish (isenglas), eggs or milk, or contain sulphites. Browse you local bottle shop reading the fine ingredients.. if these are not marked you should be right. Vintages prior to 2002 you will have to contact the winery for.
Bottled wine labelled with a vintage date of 2002 or earlier
There are new allergen labelling requirements in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) for all food including wine.
Despite these new allergen labelling requirements, bottled wine (including sparkling wine and fortified wine) labelled with a vintage date of 2002 or earlier will not have the presence of egg, fish, milk and nuts declared on the label.
Derivatives of egg, fish and milk may be used as fining agents in the wine production process. While these substances are largely removed through filtration, very small residual amounts may be present in the final product.
In addition, tannin derived from chestnuts is sometimes used as a wine additive.
These substances will not be declared on bottled wine labelled with a vintage date of 2002 or earlier, because bottled wines have a very long shelf life and can remain in circulation for many years and prior to the introduction of the Code in December 2002, manufacturers of wines were not required to label their presence.
Consequently, individuals who suffer from adverse reactions to egg, fish, milk and chestnuts should be aware that bottled wine (including sparkling wine and fortified wine) labelled with a vintage date of 2002 or earlier will not have these substances declared on the label, if present.
From 20 December 2004, bottled wine labelled with a vintage date of 2003 or later and all other alcoholic beverages must declare on the label derivatives of egg, fish, milk and nuts, when present.

Oh yeah, along those lines [info from the Cruelty Free Shop, last week]:
Labelling of New Zealand Beer and Wines
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) recently approved an exemption for the labelling of isinglass (a fining agent derived from the dried swim bladders of certain tropical and subtropical fish) for wine and beer. This was applied for by the Brewers Association of New Zealand (BANZ). This exemption was gazetted on 28 May 2009 and took immediate effect from that date. Accordingly, NZ wine and beer makers are no longer required to declare isinglass 'fish' on product labels. This is bad news for us as it means that it is no longer possible to tell if a wine produced in New Zealand is suitable for vegetarians or vegans. If you have a favourite NZ wine I would suggest contacting the producer directly to ask if they use isinglass in their production process.
Frustrating.

Here's a list (http://www.vnv.org.au/site/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=195&Itemid=133) from the Vegetarian Network Victoria. It's updated fairly often but don't rely on it for 100% accuracy as manufacturers can change their processes at any time.

I was going to suggest wrights. There is also an Australian brand I have seen in countdown... It was called oxford or something along those lines. It was cheap but quite nice! It specifies on the back that its vegan so no worries about stupid isinglass. Dammit now I won't be able to buy random brands anymore!!!
As for vegan shampoo/conditioner I have seen Thursday plantation in a few supermarkets. Not widely available but you might be in luck. Other than that I'm sorry I can't really help as I stopped shopping at supermarkets a while ago... I find it easier to find vegan products elsewhere. Search around for alternative earthy/herbal/eco brands.... I have had some success with those in supermarkets.

I have heard eco store, tresemee, vo5 (doubtful), and NOM are NZ vegan ones. I buy lush because I know it is and i've never gotten around to checking the others :D

Go about halfway down the page and you'll see they're vegan.
Apparently Jessica, who runs the Cruelty Free Shop here in Sydney, was told by a winemaker that the NZ rule about labelling applies to Aussie stuff too. It's times like these it's handy to not like wine :-/ Good luck to all of you though!

^ Thanks.
If any of you read the Herald this morning, there is an advert for Oxford Landing wines-
"Great with Fish, Chicken and Vegans".
According to their advert, the wine is Vegan :pibo:

Ohh Oxford landing is good too I didn't like Wrights AT ALL!!
Akin is vegan but it's a chemist one. I thought it was terrible but I know a few non-vegans who wont use anything but so maybe i'm just not suited to it!
I use lush shampoo and conditioner but I asked my organic shop who said NOM isn't and only some eco store ones are.

My vegan flatmates use Akin. By choice. They really like it.
I still prefer lush... hmmmm lush.
As for rights wines I only like their riesling! Which is a pity because it cuts out the one NZ vegan wine I knew of. I canīt believe they ahve changed the labelling. I head about it ages ago but I just donīt understand the logic!!!!

I've bought shampoo and conditioner of nature's organics from New World, so you definitely can find it in NZ.
