I went to my first Critical Mass last month. I'm vowing to go every chance I get. It was such a good time! We got to Times Square and put the bikes in the air, then I had to head home.

Anyone else do the Critical Mass? I would highly suggest it if you haven't.

Critical Mass is a gathering of bikes that has a random route through the town you're in. The point of it is to raise awareness for bikes and to promote less dependency on fossil fuels. Here's a link:

I am a bike commuter, and I'm not down with critical mass. I think that a gathering of cyclists is a great idea. However, a massive bike ride that blocks traffic is not a good way to convince people that biking is a good idea. I think it hurts more than helps. I'm not saying we shouldn't assert our right to be on the road, but I do think we need to do so in a manner that is considerate to all traffic (i.e. the voting public).

I use to ride in Critical Mass when I lived in Philly. Philly is a horrible city for cyclists, there are no bike lanes to be found and people are less then curtious in the "city of brotherly love".
