Last year I began running for the first time. I LOVED it!! When I began running I could only run for about 3 minutes before I had to stop and walk again. Within three months I was able to run for close to an hour and probably could have went longer but I hadn't wanted to injure myself. Well, I ended up getting shin splints and by the time they had finally healed I wasn't really going to gym anymore and I had pretty much lost my motivation.

I'm starting to run again but I don't want to get shin splints again in fear of losing all motivation once again. When I started running last year I became sort of addicted and I ran 6 or 7 days a week until I got shin splints. I think that may have been my problem.

I'm looking for some sort of guideline to follow as a new runner that will allow me to run without injury. I found this (http://www.nismat.org/traintip/runner/newtrain.html) online but according to this program I wouldn't even get to start running for 6 weeks!! Do you think I should start with this program or do any of you have different advice and/or programs I could follow?

Thanks!! Peace & Love!!

-Nicole

I've known several people who've used that with success.

Brandon, this program looks PERFECT!! I think the problem I had before was that I did too much too soon. I felt like if I COULD run that long then I should but it seems that's where I was wrong. I'm going to start this program!! Thanks!! :)

I really wanted to do the Couch to 5K program, but I couldn't get motivated until I found this.

They're podcasts that tell you when to run and when to walk. I love the music on these ones. It's mostly hip-hop and pop.

These ones are a good mix of hip-hop, pop, alternative, and oldies. I like them too.

These are the original ones. It's mostly techno, which I despise. But, to each their own.

These are the only ones I have found, but there might be more as well. I think they're really helpful.

Hey! I'm training to run a marathon in Feb. I'm using The Non Runner's Marathon Trainer by David Whitsett. So far, so good!
