I couldn't really figure out what forum to put this in, but these little buggers save money over tumble driers, so...yeah.

Has anyone ever used one of these? Do they really get out most of the water? I've been thinking of investing in one, with an eye on replacing our god-awful, noisy, huge, energy-sucking tumble dryer. Drip drying straight from the washer doesn't really work for us (we've tried....beLIEVE me), so I'm hoping this might be a happy medium.

Why exactly does line drying not work for you? I have a rotation going on my clothes--every two or three days, I wash what's dirty and hang it up. By the time I need to wear it, it's dry. That's even on days when I have to hang my clothes up inside.

Never used a spin dryer, so I can't really help you there.

Is this what you're talking about (http://climateofourfuture.org/a-more-energy-efficient-way-to-dry-your-clothes/)?

If so, I've heard they do get quite a bit of water out (my sister used one ages ago). You'll want one with a nice high RPM factor to it, tho. The higher the rpm, the drier the clothes at the end. I don't know anything else about them so I can't tell you much but I do think it'd be a nice happy medium.

Yep..that's the type of thing I mean.

Mostly, we can hang stuff outside, and some things can dry indoors, but many of our (apparently heavy?) clothes take a day or longer to dry. We don't have enough space, even if we covered all of our radiators (which would involve moving the furniture) with racks...and then they still take hours to dry. Our house turns into this manky closet and bleah. I don't mean to get into a debate, as drying more than one smallish load on a rack in the kitchen just isn't practical for us.

My Gran used one of these and I had one in a flat I rented but tbh they don't get your clothes much drier than the spinner on your washing machine. You still have to hang the clothes as they're still pretty wet when you get them out. You might be better off looking at a more efficient washer with a high spin speed setting. I have an ajustable one which I turn down in the summer and up in the winter.

We also had problems drying all our washing but a friend of mine gave me one of these (http://www.pulleymaid.com/Classic_Clothes_Airer.htm) and it's brill. It's hung abover our kitchen radiator so the washing gets dried pretty quickly when it's on plus it doesn't make the house feel like a steamy laundry iykwim.

Ah. I was looking a few weeks ago at a larger version of one of those. It looked like a pretty neat idea. I was/am a bit worried about the musty smell, but you use one currently without trouble?

Someone posted about these in another thread iirc.

Yes it's great as long as I don't use eco balls for the indoor washing or over load it with clothes.

If your washing smells musty you might have a build up in your machines pipes. This happens if you wash on a low temp or it tends to become noticable if you switch to using eco balls. This can help to get rid of it, pour two cups of white vinager into the soap drawer leave the machine empty and wash on a 90/95 wash.

We haven't really done a lot of hang drying since we moved here (just in March), so it may be okay. I wash about once a week on a high temp wash (the whites), so I wouldn't think it would be too bad. The musty smell at our old flat was in the air in the room, and sometimes in the clothes because it too so freaking long for things to dry (really truly well over 24 hours for many items).

I'd really like to get rid of the tumble dryer, but IS thinks I'm crazy. :p
