For the longest time I have been wanting to try diet pills. I have been unhappy with my weight for some time now. I work out regularly but I haven't seen any results. Im about 5'10 and I weigh 140lbs. I know I'm not obese or any where near that but I would like to lose at least 15lbs and I want to do it in a safe and veg friendly way. Are there any types of supplements that I can take and trust to be vegetarian?

diet pills are crap. if they worked and were safe, doctors would be prescribing them.

yeah, you're right. I'm just a little discouraged right now. I guess I'll just try harder.

thanks :)

don't be discouraged, just strike them off the list and try something else. :) maybe post your workout routine here and some of the fit people (ie: not me! :D) can offer suggestions to help you switch it up a bit.

I know this isn't what you were looking for, but you're 3 inches taller than me, weigh about the same, and everyone (including a formerly weight-obsessed-me) thinks I'm thin. (I'm sure not everybody out there does, but you know what I mean.)

As far as diet pills, yes, there are some vegetarian ones on the market, and you'll most likely find them at health food stores. But again, as someone formerly obsessed with my weight, I've learned that the only diet pill or diet you should take or follow is one you can do for the rest of your life, otherwise the weight will come back, and usually with a vengeance.

Like Jen said, diet pills are crap. Most of them are loaded with caffeine, which in high doses is an appetite suppressant and a laxative. Usually a few other ingredients have a laxative effect as well. So yeah, diet pills ~ crap.

If you're still really hoping to drop a few pounds or tone up, I suggest you become more active and find little ways to tweak your diet of unnecessary calories, like sugar in beverages, too much oil in your cooking, etc.

Yeah, you are pretty thin, 5'10 and 140 lbs puts you at a 20.1 BMI. I think if you lost fifteen pounds you'd look pretty scary.

I used to take diet pills when I used to have an ED, but as soon as I learned they had gelatin in them I stopped taking them. I used Hydroxycut Hardcore. I lost weight actually but I think it was because they made me so nauseous and gave me so much heartburn I didn't desire food. They have a lot of caffeine.

Alli is the only FDA approved drug in the US for weight loss. They only recommend that the significantly overweight take it though. My sister bought it and it worked, but it made her crap so often that she had to stop taking it because she couldn't keep going to the bathroom at work!

If you lost 15lbs, your BMI would be 17.9. Anything under 18.5 is underweight. Just keep in mind that it sounds like you're already thin. The only ones I've tried were just green tea diet pills. Those are just supposed to help boost your metabolism a bit. I would recommend looking up the ingredients before buying them anyways, just to make sure that they're safe. Some of the things in diet pills seem like a very bad idea to take. The safest ones are probably the ones doctors prescribe, but I think those aren't used very often, and only when a person is severely overweight. Please be careful.

for about a month and a half I've been working out with my roomies doing P90X. I work as a dispatcher a 911 communication center so my eating habits aren't so great. I make my own humus sandwiches with spinach leaves and cucumbers if not just some sugar-free peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I hardly ever drink soda, but I do drink coffee. My shifts are work are 12 hrs, so I snack on granola bars and sometimes peanuts or cashews. I dont think I eat bad and I do work out regularly. I think I just feel discouraged because I'm not seeing results and I'm working very hard. I know I'm not obese, and most people consider me thin, but I am not happy with my weight. I would really like to wear a two piece swimsuit with confidence.

thanks for the replies guys.

I never would have thought that I would need information on diet pills. I am afraid to take them because I know they're not safe and most of them are not veg friendly. I was just trying to see if there was possibly some sort of miracle product I could take. I guess its true what they say, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".

thanks:)

It seems like every single person I know who's done diet pills ends up, sooner or later, back where they started, weight-wise. It's like paying to watch yourself fail. Not worth it! (JMO.)

Diet pills are not good for you and you will gain back. Also keep in mind the most recent recalls and I see more coming due to health issues with them.

Ditch the scale, grab a camera and take comparison pics every 4 weeks, eat clean and exercise. Your scale weight is not the problem here the diet and exercise plan is. Do those and you'll look better and feel better :)
