I've read quite a bit about Tofurkey on this, and various other sites. However, I haven't heard reviews for the "Unturkey," and was wondering whether or not the different brands are any good. I'm undecided.

I usually make other dishes (squash, grains, stuffing, sheperd's/pot pie, etc.) for Thanksgiving. Should I go for it, or will my money and time be better spent making my "regular" dishes, sans "turkey"... Thanks. :)

I voted "other/none" because I've never really had either and don't care to. I'm not very fond of too many meat substitutes. However, I have had the Tofurkey slices, which aren't bad. I couldn't eat them alone, but in a sandwich with a bunch of other stuff isn't half bad.

IMO, I think you'd be better off making everything /but/ the turkey. It'll definitely save you $$$.

In years past we've used Veat & Momo's (they make a loaf not listed on their site) as a turkey alternative. Both of those products contain whey however. I'm planning to use seitan this year, but all of them are really good turkey alternatives. We purchased the Tofurkey one year and it was quite dissapointing, I like some of their other products though. I've had Unturkey but can't remember what I thought of it.. apparently I didn't love it though :).

I like Tofurkey Deli Slices, I've not had their other products, however..
and I also like Smart Deli Turkey Slices.

the unturkey is rubbery and tastes rather gross and the 'skin' part of it is like pantyhose

im not fond of tofurky, but the unturkey is just plain Disgusting

Is Unturkey made by the same company as Unchicken? I've had the latter, and only the Tofurkey slices. I like those.

Yup, Unturkey is made by the same company as Unchicken. I got the Unturkey once, and I thought it was okay. But, I am a HUGE Tofurkey fan, so I think that Tofurkey is better than Unturkey.

Funny how something can be gross to some and delicious to others...it is unanimous at our house...unturkey wins. We order one every T.giving. I especially love the gravy.

If you want to make your own unturkey and save $, there is a recipe in Now and Zen...

I'm a fan of DIY nonturkey. I have tried tofurky and unturkey, it was worth it to make my own. (Which was really tasty) I thought both were over priced and not that good. Usually I make some sort of grain casserole with some festive vegetable dish like baked squash.
