How disappointing Don't they realize that helping endangered species is not always something you can do strictly on local basis?

This is a real pity. Ken Salazar has won awards for doing good deeds, such as handling successful negotiations for prisoners of war, but in areas such as environmentalism he's very much a good 'ol boy. I was living in New Mexico during the time that he was representing the state. Not much in the way of a green state, New Mexico.

The Obama administration is also causing problems for animals whose migratory paths are obstructed by the wall being built to separate the US from Mexico. The Obama administration has sped it up so that the builders don't have to respect endangered species laws.

Even with the actions Egypt has taken regarding their pigs, I haven't heard much come from Obama. We're a long ways away from having a President with a good animal rights or even animal welfare record. I'm not surprised.
