I've been waiting since June for vegan essentials to receive and send me non leather, imitation DocMartin, steel-toe boots. Does anyone here know of another place I can get some quality boots like these? I've done a pretty extensive web search but I either didn't see what I was looking for or there really is no other place to buy them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated since my 7 year old Docs have pretty much fallen apart and it's coming on to boot wearing season.

I don't remember if the boots carried here are steel-toed or not, but check out:

www.veganstore.com has a few pairs of steel toes. I think three right now. Do a search on their site and they'll all come up.

http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/ do a steel cap boot, its called 'work boot'.
Ive got their 'combat boot' - while its definately a tough shoe, i dont think its an actual steel cap (although they did set off a metal detector at an airport). Great shoes anyway.

Yes, definitely try the vegetarian shoes uk site. I got a pair of steel toe boots there a couple years ago that I really like. It took quite a few weeks for them to get to me, but it was worth the wait.

FYI, you can purchase steel toes that attach over the front of your boot. You can also get the attachable steel bottoms.

These meet the safety codes in Canada for construction sites.

My husband will only wear steel-capped shoes and I order them through Pangea- Flower had the link. They're great. Make sure you order the shoe polish to to help weather-proof them and make them last longer.

Pangea stopped carrying the ones I like. :( I have a pair of them that have lasted my 3 1/2 years so far, but I *was* thinking about getting a new pair. I walk many miles every day at work, too, so they're quite worth the money.

Oh, well. Guess I'll wear them for a while yet!

does anyone wear the steel toe boots for work?

ive heard that they protect your feet if you drop something light on it, say 35 pounds...

but if you drop something heavy, like 150 pounds, the steel part can actually cut off your toes...

so heres the question... are the vegetarian ones as strong as the leather ones? is there different ratings for them?
etc

thanks

The vegan ones meet the same safety standards as leather ones, so, yes, they are as safe.

I've worn mine for work every day!

No. If you're a construction worker or in some industry which requires ( I think construction workers are required to wear them) that you wear steel-toe boots, then you should be aware that Doc Martins, and equivalents (leather and not), are not up to some safety standard I was told about by the guy at the boot store. I guess "professional" steel-toe boots have thicker steel casing.

My understanding was that yes, if you drop something heavy on a steel-toed boot it can cut off your toes, but that this is actually desirable. If your toes get cut off, doctors can sew them back on--but not if they get crushed.
