Hello,
I am going to Tanzania this summer and was looking into buying hiking boots. I'd like to avoid leather, but I also have wide feet which makes purchasing any shoes difficult. Does anyone know of any good hiking boots for women with wide feet?
Thanks in advance!

you're in luck these days. New balance has shoes with no leather. You also have brands like merrell, hi tec and others that now make a breathable netting style shoe that's great. They're not waterproof at all though. I work in a backcountry recovery program and need boots. I actually just buy thrift store boots. i just bought a very nice pair of merrells that had a slight burn of the material that didn't affect anything but the look for 10.00. if you need waterproof, you can either thrift leather or similar boots or buy a less waterproof/ water resistant boot and add waterproofing items like nikwax.
if thrifting wide boots is tough, you can buy slightly used boots off ebay. they sell em by wides on there as well. i've bought used boots that worked well.

I have Garmont Vegan Hikers, which are great for my wide feet. They seem to breathe pretty well, which I could imagine would be important in a hot climate like Tanzania. Unless you're going to be tramping through swamps and streams and need knee-high boots, I expect they would do just fine for you! :D
I bought mine a few years ago, and although I can't seem to find the exact model online, it looks something like this: http://www.garmontusa.com/881052212.html

i've been known to buy boys or mens boots - they're often cut much wider. you can always paint pink daisies on them if they're not girly enough for you. :)

Thank you fro all your help. I will check around my local thrift stores and if nothing shows up, I can order the Garmont boots and try them out.
THANK YOU!
