Okay, full disclosure here. I never ate much honey as either an omni or vegetarian, but I did enjoy it now and then on biscuits or to dip my "chicken" nuggets in (I know, it sounds weird, but it's good once in a while).
I like agave nectar and brown rice syrup just fine, but when I saw that there was a fake honey on the market, I had to try it.
I know that there are at least a few honey lovers hanging around here on VB so now that I've tried Suzanne's Just Like Honey, I thought I'd review it in case anyone else is interested.
Texture-wise, it's spot on for honey. Thick, gloopy, very sticky. It also looks like honey, although maybe a smidge darker.
Taste-wise, I also thought it was perfect. Granted, it's been a while since I've had real honey, so I could be remembering wrong, but I honestly wouldn't have guessed that it wasn't the real deal. It's sweet and smooth without being too sugary or cloying. I definitely thought it was yummy. It'd be great on biscuits or oatmeal.
I mixed some up with a little mustard last night to make my own "honey" mustard and it turned out pretty good. I made it with yellow mustard, but next time I'll use dijon (we were out last night and I didn't want to go to the store). I also tried it alone just as a quick sugar fix and it was delicious.
There's no expiration date that I can find on the bottle, which bothers me, but I'm guessing that it's like real honey and doesn't really go bad? I hope not, because there's nothing on the bottle saying it should be refrigerated or whether it's going to expire on me.
If you love honey but are avoiding it (or want to start avoiding it), you might want to check it out. I got mine from Cosmo's Vegan Shoppe, but there are several online stores selling it. :)
