View Full Version : Shaving cream/gel?

Does anyone know of a shaving cream or gel that is vegan and is not tested on animals? I am having difficulty finding a cruelty-free type. One geared toward women's legs would be preferable, I suppose.

(I know I can use soap, but if there's a good option, I'd like to indulge)

I've just started using this cream and I really liked it.

This is definitely one of the most difficult products to find but I'm lucky enough to have an organic vegetarian store where I live, and this was their recommendation.

Original Source also now do shaving products

all their products are vegan, but the shaving stuff is difficult to get hold of, most people just stock their shower products which are all great.

Kiss My Face makes a shaving lotion which is animal friendly. It's a little too thin and runny for my preference, though.

ETA: Here's the link to the page on their site that describes their shaving lotions. You can even buy their products right from their website.

If you have a Trader Joes near you they have a shaving cream which I'm 99% sure is vegan.

I have been using Kiss My Face shaving cream on my legs for years and I LOVE it. It is thin and doesn't foam but I find that if I rub it somewhat vigourously on my legs, it sort of lathers up. If you can get over the fact that it doesn't foam up like Skintimate, but still gets the job done, then it's all good. My legs are very sensitive to razor burn and I find that KMF provides ample moisture to get a nice, smooth shave, which is really all you need in a shaving cream. And one bottle lasts a very long time.

I've been using hair conditioner for years now. I don't get as many rashes as i did when using gels or foam, and it's really soft and smooth to use.

Same here. I use Paul Mitchell The Conditioner.

Another vote for conditioner. An added plus is that you don't have competing scents.

I use the conditioner trick whenever I run out of shaving cream, and I hate it. I do get rashes and it's so difficult to tell where you have already shaved. I'd rather use soap...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. The KissMyFace looks nice. I do have a Trader Joe's near me and will go check out their selection

Another vote for Kiss My Face. I love the stuff and one large bottle of it lasts me for months.

I'm another fan of using conditioner as shaving cream. It makes my legs much smoother and less irritated than any regular shaving gel/cream. Its also cheaper.

haha I came to this thread to suggest Alba. It can be a little waxy if you apply too much. The bottle says best when applied sparingly and they mean it. I use maybe an inch of product per leg which means it's going to last about forever.

you could try using an aloe vera based shaving cream and also an aloe moisturiser after shaving. i sometimes used to get a rash on my neck after shaving. it stopped after i started using those two together.

You could probably shave a boar with The Conditioner and have it turn out soft and smooth.

Agreed! Conditioner works great, and that way you don't have to worry about coordinating different scents.

I also sometimes use just plain ol' aloe vera gel. Super inexpensive.

Wouldn't it clog the razor since its so thick?
