Hi people!! A bit of history and re-introduction!
Well, the purpose of this post is about running. I like to exercise and I love fitness machines such as the bike and cross trainer. However. I've been very busy (lazy too) and I did not go to the gym for a while. Now, I moved to San Diego, CA (yay!!!) and exercising outdoors is easy here. And I do not want to pay a gym.
The beach is very close and is good to exercise there (and free) There is a problem. I do not like running, but I know is the best thing to do... very healthy and calorie burning. I know I can get used to.
I read somewhere there is a website that helps you to train, to get use to running, etc.
Do you know such web? Do you have tips for this? I'm a bit overweight (I'm a guy 5'11'' with 210 pounds) I plan to run in bare foot, in the coast. So I will be basically running over soft sand. If I overheat, well... water is within inches
Help please!

do you like another sport which involves running? i hate the idea of plain old running up and down. but i could do badminton, or rounders, both of which involve a lot of running about. i'd rather do something i enjoy, than make myself do something i hate. maybe you could do beach volleyball?

I like soccer... but I need to involve more people into that.
Well... I hated to run, but I actually never gave it a shot. Without the beach, I would not even think about it. But the idea of running bare foot, with just my bath suit, getting tan, breathing the sea scent, able to just splash in the sea if I get too tired or too hot and lie in the sand when I'm done. Sweet.

You should take up water sports bro.
You'll lose the pounds, gain the fitness, gain the tan and enjoy yourself.
Any intense water activity really. Even body boarding.
The best would be tri-athlon together with weights training but you need to condition your body to that first.

Definitely follow through with the running, I got started one day and now can't seem to stop. It's quite addicting once you get used to it and it makes you feel great!

Couch-to-5k is great! I've always been bad at running (short legs) even when I'm fit, and it's a nice slow introduction and build up the running gradually :)

Thanks a lot guys!!!!
I did start to run and I like it! This week I will be running more, as last week I've been a little busy and I did not run all I wanted.
I'm self employed so I'm attached to my car... I drive a lot of miles every day, but the good thing of this is, that when I do not have too much to do, I can drive to the beach, park and run.

I found that the Jillian's 30 day shred is great. It requires very little space and a set of weights (I use 3 pounds) and your done in like 20 minutes. When I do it im sweating and im so sore the next day.
Maybe you can add this too along with running at the beach?

That workout video is TOUGH. I'm not in that bad of cardiovascular shape and the first time I did that DVD I was panting!

In Health we just learned about fitness walking. The woman teaching is ex-military and used to be a runner. She said that several of her runner friends switched and the next time she saw them (a couple months later) that they were in even better shape (and they'd already been fit from running!)
Fitness walking is easier on your joints than running, and will work your abs, as well. (There's a proper form to it, it's not just walking, but it's not so bad. It just takes getting used to.) I don't know how to describe the form, but I bet you could find it online somewhere!
I'm so jealous, I wish I had a beach to walk on every day!
