Well I figured out how this all works so I may as well leave my sad story here now:
When I was about 7 or 8 years old my dad brought me home a rabbit. I was always wanting a rabbit and I was so excited. I named her squeakie after a toy I was playing with that had that name. I don't remember her too much but she was a big white rabbit and my dad made her and outdoor pen. She dug herself a hole but unfortunately she didn't chew off a root properly so it stuck out into the entrance of the hole a bit. She got an eye infection.
One day I came home from playing at my friend's house and there was Squeakie lying dead on the top of some garbage in the garbage can. I was shocked and very upset. I went crying inside an found out what had happened. My dad had killed Squeakie by hitting her over the head with a blunt object because her eye was getting worse and her wanted to put her out of her misery.
I can understand my dad killing my rabbit because he grew up on a farm and killing animals is what you do especially if they are suffering. But I'll never understand him putting her in the garbage. But that is what we are up against. That's how a lot of people see animals.

yeah... as disposable. :(
My father has actually thrown away several of my pets.. Including a stray cat that I took in as a child. She died from the heat, I assume. She seemed perfectly healthy, as we had her for a few years.
I used to feed goats at my grandpa's old house. I was probably around 7 or 8 at the time. My uncle took care of the animals. They had chickens, and rabbits, and goats, of course. And I used to hang out and feed them mesquite from the trees nearby. Well, there was a cute black one. And they decided to slaughter that one for dinner. I was in the house, and they were slowly killing it. I could hear the goat still crying and making noises as they were cutting the head off. And they drained the blood into pots. They brought it inside and walked past me with it.. Then my grandma offered us some. They actually drank the stuff! They tried convincing my cousin to drink it, telling him it was a raspberry drink. He wouldn't drink it, and I knew otherwise. That goat ended up a meal of Carne Guisada... with blood in the gravy. :(

I am really sorry that this hurt you. I am. The whole thing could have been handled in a much better way.
However, I have no problems with dead bodies being put in the trash. If you choose not to take your deceased dog home from the vet that's where the body often goes.
That's how I want to go. One of the few things that I can't stand is the thought of being buried in a box somewhere. I've made it clear that I am to be donated, 100%, to research. Not only do I want my dead piece of meat to help others, I don't want to rot in some box with all of my fluids replaced by some chemical.
For me, once the life is gone from something, it is a dead, lifeless husk. I don't care what they do with me after I die. If they wanted to cut me up and grill me up for dinner, it would be just fine.
When animals died on our farm, my Dad would drag them off somewhere and let the wildlife have at 'em. Good for him. I wish that they could do that with me when I go.

FafaFrappy, I was going to say that your story is a lot sadder than mine but your story isn't sad, it's sadistic. It just goes to show that humans can get used to anything. And it shows that just because someone does something and gets used to it doesn't mean it's right. I think a lot of people would puke if they saw your story on TV.
How do you make that puking smiley face?

I'm so sorry that both of you had to have such traumatizing experiences. :(
It is very sad how animals are treated as disposable. Fortunately, that seems to be slowly changing.

It is sad and sadistic... But they grew up that way, I believe.. My father has killed rabbits and stuff as a kid, and they ate them. But then again, they were kind of poor and had to raise their own food. Some vegetarians say if you can kill it on your own, then you have right to eat it. And they have certainly earned the right... Which still doesn't make it right, imo. It still doesn't make it right to kill something just for yourself.
To each his own, I guess.

On an unrelated note...just looking at what Equipro said about being donated...does anyone know where I can register my organs for donation in Alberta? I'm of legal age here and would love to donate my organs for whatever medical purposes after I die.

I think the best place to call is the Motor Vehicle Office. They generally are part of that program. Or phone your local hospital and they can probably tell you who to phone.

Man. I can't believe people most of the time, but then I realize that veg*ns must be from some distant planet or something. Thats how I justify it :D
I was lucky, as a kid I had a rabbit named Bunnicula and a hamster named Oscar. They lived long lives. My parents rescued both of them from pet stores who were going to trash them.
While my parents and I didn't generally get along, we atleast agreed on one thing: animals aren't to be treated like trash.
