Has anyone every had one of these? What was it like? I've got an appointment on Friday morning for one and am *very* excited about it. I've never had one of these before (just regular massages), so I'm not sure what to expect. They look so nice!

We do them at my spa and they are wonderful! We call them "Healing Stone Massages". I have had them at other places (a resort in Vegas and also another spa in CT) and sometimes they are called River Rock Massages. They're going to be different from your typical full body massage in that they are not "deep tissue" (because they use stones against your body, not hand/fingers) but still extremely relaxing and restorative.
Usually they involve using heated, smooth stones and oil and the therapist will cradle the stone in their hand and move it along your body. Usually, they use one stone for a specific part of the body, then place it on a chakra point at the top of your spine, and then use another stone and place that one on the next chakra, and so on. When you're finished, you have a line of stones going from the base of your neck down to your butt. (Note: let them know if the stones are too hot. I have sensitive skin and one time they were a little hot but I didn't feel like saying anything, but then when it was over I looked in the mirror and I had red marks going down my spine! But that was my fault for not speaking up)
They're my personal favorite. ENJOY! I hope you post back and let us know how it was.
That sounds absolutely wonderful! I definitely could use a bit of pampering. :) I'll let you know how it was- thanks!
I got back a few hours ago from my massage! It was really nice (and really long! an hour and a half!!), but I still prefer the traditional massage over this.
I felt *extremely* relaxed afterwards and still feel very mellow. The heat from the stones felt great, except that when she took them away I got a bit cold. She even put them in between my toes!
All in all, it was a nice experience. I wouldn't get one again, but I'm glad I did it!

Has anyone been to a rolfer? I've thought about it before but am too scared of the pain involved!
I haven't. Is that when they use spoons on you?

i have been to a rolfer. the technique releases feelings that we've pent up in different parts of our body. it's a very deep massage that also has deep energetic elements. People often cry as they release the "emotional toxins" that they've held onto.
i love getting all kinds of massages. Right now, i'm signed up to take Thai Yoga Massage classes so that i can offer another dynamic type of yoga to my clients!

Wow, that sounds cool. Glad the massage was so awesome, Flower! I forgot to mention that typically they are longer than regular massages, so that also lends to putting you into an ultra relaxed state.
I'm surprised you wouldn't do one another time! But it sounds like you really love your routine with the regular ones.
I have a facial on Sunday (haven't had one in almost a year) so I am super psyched for that. I love them because I love the facial/head/neck massage that they do as part of it, and at my place they also do hands and feet while you have your mask on. Yay for healthy pampering!

I had a ten minute rolfing demonstration once and it was too painful for me to ever want a full one. I felt like the guy's fingers were going to puncture my internal organs or something! The stone massage sounds nice though...
