Could you make that just a little harder...

i hate polls like this.. i think in that situation i would just stand there and let whatever happens for not doing anything happen! only if my children were involved would i decide.. if that was the case i would do anything to protect them.. otherwise i could not take any life..

I voted to kill the nonhuman, but I think it would depend on the situation. For example, if I were terminally ill and suffering severely, I would have no problem allowing myself to be killed in this situation. There are numerous factors (the relative situations of the nonhuman, other human, and me) which could complicate this big time.

well... I made the poll intentionally difficult. I guess you should assume though that all parties are healthy happy and in the prime of each's individual life.

I've never been in a hypothetical situation. If I ever am, I'll get back to you on your poll. :p

I voted for "kill another human" but specifically I meant the hypothetical one who was standing over me making me make this choice.

Where's the bear on an island option?

I really don't understand this poll. I'd shoot any animal I could if I or my family were hungry and needed food (or if we were threatened) and there were no other options. Likewise, I'd kill another human being mighty quick if I or my family were in imminent risk of death or serious bodily injury. I think that the only way I would consider killing myself is if I were wasting away with some painful, terminal ailment and I could no longer take the suffering, or the financial damage being done by my continued and futile existence were such that I would no longer want to subject my family to the economic drain.

I respect all life, but if comes down to them or us, well "they" are going to come in second place . . .

Why can't I choose all 3?

well it's a pointless poll, but some people seem to go overboard (in my opinion) with the whole animals lives are as valuable as people thing. I was jus curious where people stood with it as I put it. But it seems I put it wrong or some of you just can't look at what was presented and make a decision and so make jokes and whatnot. oh well. don't matter anyhow

and Kurm, bear island is a myth. nobody's ever been there and I don't believe

i was serious with my comment... my comment had nothing to do with more value it had to do with killing..

granted as a mother i naturally put more value on my offsprings life.. natural mothering instincts would over ride most things..

I voted for shoot and kill another animal
even tho i regard an animals life to be the same equaity of any humans
but in my lifetime i could save tons of animals even if it is in exchange for just one but the animal would do nothing but live its own life i think

Ya I guess you are right. I think the idea though is to make people think about how much they care for animals. A buddhist would try to let happen what happens. Try not to interfere. We are so attached to this life and its realities. Many people have been put into a similar situation. Jehova's Witnesses who were German refused to join the army. They were often taken out and shot.

I didn't vote because I would not take any action. I would make no choice and if all three die then the responsibility is not mine.

See, I think non-human animals' lives are as valuable as those of human animals. But the main reason I didn't answer your poll (besides my suspicion of you trying to stir up trouble) is that I can't conceive of a situation where I'd be forced to kill another creature or kill myself. I always have the option of refusing to cooperate.

It's a hypothetical situation, as is the one in your poll. :|

sure, but I'd like one too please

I voted for the animal. The second one would have me end up in prison or dead. The third I would never do. And I do have a gun. More than one, in fact. This is silly, anyway.

I swerve for squirrels, though. Does that count?

I would rather kill myself than another human being. Of course that wouldn't be true if that other person was out to kill me or some such and there was no escape. But if they were of no threat to me and given those options I'd opt for myself.
