I've been a vegan for four years and a veggie for six. Not long after I went veggie my hair stopped growing (just on my head). I don't know if this was just a coincidence or not. I've never asked a doctor about it for fear of the "you really do need meat/eggs/dairy talk".....for the record I am extremely healthy and eat a well balanced diet. It was the same length for years until I had it cut about five months ago and have yet to see any sign of regrowth. Does anyone know why it would have just stopped growing like that?

Thanks

hair seems to have a natural maxium lenght.

How short have you cut it, and what kind of growth do you think you should have?

When I was fairly new to being veggie I started losing lots of hair. Big clumps would fall out everyday- which was pretty depressing for a teenage girl. I went to the doctor and he couldn't find anything wrong. My mum was on about iron a lot- so I inncreased my intake (leafy green veg) my doctor said no one needed vitamin tablets if they eat a healthy balenced diet. Well anyway its 8 or 9 years down the line and I'm pleased to say I'm not bald. I recently saw somone I hadn't seen for a year and he didn't recognise me as my hair had grown so much! Dont know what i'm doing right but my hair is longer now than ever. stick with the healthy diet I'd say.

sorry about rambles,

K

my hair was about elbow length, then I had about four inches cut, and there's been no sign of regrowth at all.....I'll try extra leafy greens though, hopefully that'll work, and my hair does sometimes come out in large quantities somewhat like that so maybe that's it

thanks

Hair always grows. Faster at some times rather than others. Being ill will effect hair growth, so if you've been ill recently that may do it. Or maybe you're in a slow growth period and not really growing a noticable amount.

At night, when I'm watching TV, I massage my scalp. It does wonders for your hair. The circulation is wonderful for it as well as working the oils from the scalp down the shaft toward the ends.

One bit of advice I received a long time ago. Treat your hair like an expensive piece of clothing. Shampoo only the scalp and condition from the bottom up. Never use a brush and massage your scalp. That's the secret to beautiful hair.

I have that problem now. Like when I brush my hair, it just...comes out. And my hair used to be really thick, and is now very thin. I know that I get enough protein (atleast 50 g a day), so I don't know what to do.

My hair grows like a weed. i had mine cut June 6th, and it has since grown about 2 inches. so thats over 1/2 inch a month! Eep.

I don't have a good diet... well, its not terrible, but I have some digestion issues, so a lot of the time i don't eat enough, or can't tolerate a varied diet, (has nothing to do with vegetarianism...) and still my hair grows like crazy. Nails too. I need to cut them weekly. I don't know what this means in terms of anything... lol

What you need to do is talk to a vegetarian-friendly nutritionist or naturopath. They know their **** and will be able to help you figure out what's going on.

How old where you AliasSpy- i was probaly around 13 at the time. Make sure you are getting enough iron and such like and Vitamin C to help absord. According to figures I have had in my head for years (thoughfor might not be entirely accurate these days) it is usual to lose around 150 hairs a day (not sure if thats from you head or other places too...) and also the average persons hair grows around 6 inches a year...
