hello. I'm new here and need something to substitute with soy in my weight lifting diet plan since I was having thyroid gland problems from the soy.

this is what my eating plan looked like when I was eating soy:

breakfast:

2 servings oatmeal
1 glass orange juice
1 glass organic whole milk w/ protein powder

lunch:

2 boca burgers w/ american cheese (need to replace)
1 glass organic whole milk w/ protein powder

dinner:

3 bean burritos
1 glass organic whole milk w/ protein powder

snacks:

raisins, protien bars (need to replace b/c of soy protein isolate), and string cheese.

What would you guys recommend for me to replace with my boca burgers at lunch and protein bars, since these contain soy? Keep in mind I need as many calories as possible with a little protein boost. I was eating almost 4,000 calories a day.

Try some hemp protein powder, or some pea protein powder.

you can replace your lunchtime boca with a peanut butter (or any nut butter) sandwich (or 2). pb with thinly sliced bananas...yum.

another suggestion is something with chickpeas, like a few wraps with hummus, or falafel, or even a simple chickpea salad with veggies and oil.

have you tried seitan? it actually has a lot of protein. it is fairly simple to make too. A lot of fake meats are made of seitan and it is very versatile.

Amy's makes several soy free veggie burgers. They are based on grains.

Is your thyroid so affected that you cannot tolerate even the low amounts in a Boca Burger? Usually the soy-thyroid connection - especially in a male - is due to a very large daily soy component in a diet which includes soy protein isolate. Have you tried merely cutting down on soy and then had thyroid levels re-checked?
