I drink at least a 24 pack of bottled water a week and I refill the cheap bottles sometimes and reuse them (i know this is bad ; but we do recycle).

I have tried buying some of the plastic water bottles (cost from 1-10) and I have a problem with them "absorbing" the taste of whatever might get put in them besides water.

Does anyone know how to get the "taste" out of the nice plastic bottles so I dont have to keep buying the 25 pack of water for 5$ every week ? Or have any advice on another way to carry my water?

:help:

get a not plastic bottle? like a sigg bottle, or a klean kanteen, and just put water only in it?

Im sorry if it sounds like a stupid question but it seems like the bottles I have bought even taste like soap and I really do wash my dishes.

I have never seen or heard of the bottles you mentioned but they sound like a good idea. Thanks!

I use to do the same thing you did. But now I have 2 sigg bottles both 1 lt. I fill it with filtered water from the water cooler at work, at least 3 times a day.

Sigg in the 1 lt variety run about 25$, and then you can get a baby bottle brush from the dollar store and I have found that denture cleaning tabs work the same as the Sigg cleaning tabs and are cheaper.

The bottles are definitely worth every penny!

Thats what I do..I have different bottles for different things...and have a special one just for water...that I wont put anything else in and wont use when I am eating...so that it doesnt have any food or different flavors in it...I am nutty about this cause once it gets a flavor in it..I wont use it again.

My Mom always suggests to me to get the flavors out with Baking Soda and Hot Water...That sometimes works and has always worked for Thermos Bottles.

yeah, putting dish soap anywhere near any sort of plastic bottle is a recipe for soapy tasting drinks in future. :(

i have sigg bottles for water. i really like them. i have a soft gentle bristled baby bottle brush too, and i clean them with that, and really hot water. no problems. water tastes like water.

I am certainly going to be getting a couple of these in the near future and my hubby will not use them ever. :)

I always hated that plasticy taste from the hard plastic bottles like Nalgene, so I recently bought a metal one (like a Sigg, but from Mountain Equipment Co-op). It was on clearance for $4, and I take it everywhere with me. I bought it almost a month ago and I'm still tell it I love it every day!

My Siggs make even crummy tap water taste better. Idk how, but it's true.

I also have an issue with wanting to collect...

Apparently they are magical as well :p

Kidding. I agree that they are great bottles. I don't own one myself, but my stepdad uses them for hiking

My niece gave me a Sigg bottle for Christimas 2007. It is great. No taste - I think it is stainless steel. Still in great shape after being used for over a year. Wouldn't trade it.

I got a Kleen Kanteen for Christmas and I was worried about things tasting metallic (I'm used to my nalgene) and it's great! I only drink water from it though (really, I only ever drink water and hot tea.. and I have an insulated stainless mug for tea), so I can't say how it would work if you were changing out beverages. You could always get one for flavored things and one for water.

I have put everything from water to adult beverages to smoothies in my siggs without issue, just make sure to clean them thoroughly after putting anything besides water in them.

You guys made me look at the Sigg display today when I was at Whole Foods. If they had the Hello Kitty I seriously would have bought it! :wall:
