I think the US is more worried about doing anything to Korea because they've got Nukes.

North Korea's nukes and China are both a factor. China's the big kid in the neighborhood - if they say "no", options are limited. Of course, when Bush mentioned NK as a rogue nation, the bedwetters had a cow about that also.

If I understand the mixed messages of the Bush administration correctly, Iraq was invaded because they supposedly had WMD and posed a threat to the world community, and because Saddam is bad man who oppressed his people.

I think it is reasonable to say that North Korea is far more dangerous than Iraq ever was. They have nukes and missiles that could land them on the West coast. The have the 4th largest standing army in the world.

And, the people there are so hungry that children are being killed and eaten. Here we are worrying about cows and chickens while little kids are being cut up and devoured. Something is very wrong in this world.

I'm not saying NK should be invaded, but where is Bush on this issue? Why is cannibalism against children not front page news? Where is the outrage for the people of North Korea, a place arguably more hellish than Iraq ever was?

NK more dangerous? Perhaps, but they are not as much of a current strategic threat (Iraq was a source of instability in a region vital to western economies). They also are more vulnerable to external pressure, and as I said, you cannot discount China. We can only act within the parameters set by China. We go busting heads without the Reds on board, and WWIII arrives.

As far as the cannabilism thing, it will most likely not be headlines because the allegations cannot be proven. NK is on lockdown, and the only information anyone can get is unreliable reports from refugees. I'm not saying I disbelieve them, and in fact, I do thing the stories are quite possibly true. Unfortunately, even if they are, what do we do? China will not accept military action, and food aid never arrives to the people.

That's not true. I first heard about cannibalism in NK a year ago. They aired a video in Britain, made by a NK boy who had fled to China. I forgot why, but he was going back and forth between NK and China (smuggling?), and Western helpers gave him a camcorder, that he used to videotape every day life at a NK market. I have not seen it, but it must have been horrible. There were small children digging in the dirt for beans to eat. And meat was offered at a stand, even though there are no animals left over there. They eat roots and rats. And many survivors reported that the dead are being dug out at night after their funerals in order to be eaten. People are starving there to death, so it's hard to believe that aybody even needs to kill anyone for food.
If you dare as much as to sit on a newspaper that has the leader's picture on it, you and EVERBODY from your family (grandparents, children..) is sent to concentration camps.

I don't know where this is leading, but all international rice help has been given to the army and it is assumed that the rest has been resold on the World market, in order to finance the million-man army and the weapons. So food aid is not a solution. I think only a military intervention would help. Sad but true.

Actually, what I said still stands - no positive proof of the cannabilism. Reports and allegations - yes. Proof - no.
I agree that it is most likely happening, but this is a story that isn't going to run on the first page unless it is confirmed.
